What did you do to your TJ today?

I’ve got one I’ve been wanting to install on my front Dana 30. It didn’t come with instructions but I think it should be pretty straightforward ( or at least in my mind lol)
Slapped in a Powertrax No-Slip "drop in" locker.....

It was anything but "drop in" but with cold beer and some pizza we made it happen. Instruction book was for a Dana 30 rear so that made it interesting trying to guess what we were missing.

I haven't really had the chance to really test it out yet in some loose gravel/sand or how it behaves in a tight and twisty trail.
Definitely wasn't excited about pulling the carrier to get this thing installed but that's the way she goes sometimes.

It seems to be OK on the street, near silent when turning to the left but clunks a bit turning right. Not really happy with the final fitment of the new part despite having installed it just like the install manual explained. Both outer pieces shown in the image below seemed to have a bit more play than expected despite being installed correctly so that may be why.

Never got a picture of the locker once it was in unfortunately, summer heat and greasy hands was the cause🥵🥵

I like the last pair of lower control arms I bought so while they were on sale I decided to go ahead and get another set of the front lower and the rear upper. I just need to get the front upper while they’re still on sale for $84. Hard to beat a good sale.

Pulled my rear axle. Taking it to Simpson Family Jeeps in Conneaut, OH to re-do the gears while installing my Detroit locker. Quoted 950 for the gears, setup and install. It is what it is. If I would've done this 7 weeks ago when I parked it, it would be back on the road and I would've saved on buying a bunch of tools I don't need

Drove BB to work this morning. The drive home I had The Beach Boys CD playing.

Normally listen to southern rock, but was in the mood for some surf music.

I was cruising along just imagining @Jerry Bransford with bleach blonde hair surfing!!!!!

Then I could see @Zorba in a skirt surfing.

 😲😲

I quickly switched to a Lynyrd Skynyrd CD :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

... I identified some of my squeaking to be the rear sway bar link bushings. Any way I can lube these, or just replace the rubber?

If they're worn (cracking or wallowed out), replace them. Otherwise, I've used silicone-based grease on elastomeric bushings to quiet squeaks successfully in the past. Admittedly, though, not for this application, so YMMV.

How about a grass skirt hula dancing? Lol

That said, new Pistons rings and rod bearings, all std size and in all done in engine, (love this platform for that. plastiguage had me in the middle of tolerances so thats good!

FWIW I would suggest to anyone doing this in engine to use a better assembly lube than permatex ultra slick, its stringy and sticky required many wipe downs and re cleans due to the film catching specks of contaminants. I did wash and brush scrub the entire bay before the work, but when you open a can of worms dirt and the old oil gets in. Build vids on the youtube shows folks using redline lube which doesn’t look to string and tack as bad. Hope this info can help others from my lesson learned.

I used the redline stuff and and painted it on with a tiny paintbrush. It’s super slick but sticks right to whatever you put it on and stays there until touched. I bought a small 8 oz container and it would probably last 10 engine builds lol

Pulled the soft top off when I got home from work.

Probably gonna be getting a Bimini/Bikini top or a framless top.

Tell me about those mesh bits on either side of your ROPs, if you don't mind, and do they make them for an LJ? :)

I pimped out the engine compartment a bit with a set of these...

When my LJ arrived from Tejas a few months back, I noticed it was missing the passenger side strut rod. After looking at the cost of picking up a used one, these seemed a better deal. Look great, bolted right up, probably not made in the US. Sorry, no photos.

I bought them off a member here, they are smitty built. I don't even know if they still make them.
