Jezza's Turbo LJ

You know it's a beast of a machine if it can make a 4 liter look small. Cleaning up this spare block to be a backup just in case. It will be a 4.0 not a stroker, but with forged internals.

Will you run high boost on that thing similar how the LS guys dump boost on 4.8's compared to the higher cubic inch LS guys ?
And yeah that is one huge beast to make that block look small and tiny 😆

Honestly, anything over 15 psi is scary to drive. The whole chassis torqes over and it's hard to steer.
 
Short wheel base and squishy solid axle type suspension in addition to a twisty frame/chassis. Big power is not practical in a TJ. Fun, yes, but practical, no. I'd be happy with with a somewhat laggy 4-450whp turbo setup, but no more. I can already pull a front wheel off the ground from a dig. I don't need to pull both of them. Don't NEED to 😆
 
Just got back from a trip down to Big Bend National Park here in Texas. Got to do some light wheeling and heavy hiking. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Granted have not been since I think was 2000 but well worth the drive from east Texas. Though I doubt you can cross Rio Grande in John boat for $2 per person with no security check anymore.

I'm not sure there were many spots where a boat could even launch. Most of the river is ankle deep right now.
 
I have a couple of semi-finalized designs for the tailgate hinge. The first one is a heavy-duty version with a slot and threaded holes for accessories. It's more utilitarian and is designed to hold extra weight and be super solid. I used a 7/16" stainless steel pin in the design which is 10% larger than the OEM and more material around the pin area. The base flanges are also thicker and have a slightly larger footprint. I will probably do some chamfering and material removal ion a few spots yet, but it's a chunk. The second design is a lightweight version of the same hinge that has had most of the material removed in the non-critical areas. The lightweight hinge would be more suited to just hold on the tailgate, and not support a tire or accessories. I will probably run it with an aluminum pivot pin, and possibly even aluminum hardware at some point. Thoughts?

I may be interested in the lightweight version, really like the idea. I'd like something better looking than factory but have zero plans of hanging anything on the back of my jeep.

I don't know the exact forces placed on the hinges, but I'd probably run stainless or 7068 for the pivot pin and fasteners.

I defiantly will for the utility hinge. The lightweight hinge I may do some experimenting with. The hinge pin is tight tolerance and double shear. I think it would take quite a bit to break it. Currently I am running a lightweight set on the LJ that are 3d printed in PLA, pin and all as a test. So far they are holding up to my daily driving anyways.

How would the strength be affected to add some "flare" to the HD version, By adding some sort of groove in the center where the 3 holes are at ? And adding the 2 holes that are on the mount where it bolts to the body on the top just like the light version ?

I know this isn't what you would probably use on a cnc machine for metal, but I hope you get what I mean,but back to what i was saying. Using something like that to add said groove throughout the whole hinge piece while maintaining the 3 holes

How would the strength be affected to add some "flare" to the HD version, By adding some sort of groove in the center where the 3 holes are at ? And adding the 2 holes that are on the mount where it bolts to the body on the top just like the light version ?

I will probably either chamfer or radius the outside for sure. The three holes on the arm are to be threaded for bolting accessories, so the areas around them need to be flat for clamping. The tub bracket could be modified, but modifications on the bracket effect the strength considerably.

Also any update on material for the water pump drives? I'd like to go to you this week or next week before Wednesday since i plan on having my jeep running by then
If anything I'll scoop a set of the studs&washers kit for the intake/exhaust manifold and possibly the fuel rail !😁

May have to pick up a set one day, since my hinges are cracked at the welds on the mount that goes to the body....
How did that happen? Well spare tire leveraged the tailgate when i came down off an obstacle, What saved me from ripping my tailgate off was from me airing down the spare !
So no more spare since that's deleted 😉
