Topless Security

Hey, we're most improved. 🏆
Thanks, Chicago.

that's the key.

My understanding for the Pueblo area anyway is that once MJ got legal, the cartels needed to replace the revenue and their product mix shifted more heavily into opioids.

Of the people I knew whose stolen cars got recovered, they were always found in a state consistent with being used for drug trafficking activity.

you're not close enough to a major drug trafficking corridor, or at least too far up it.

On the list tworley posted, the only states that surprise me at all were TN and MO, but I'd wager that they're driven heavily by Memphis and St Louis, with the remainder of the state looking more similar to their surroundings.

Regardless of why, I’m glad that is one thing I don’t worry about, even though I am in a librard blue state…stupid I94 corridor and stupid Detroit

A co-worker of mine was victim to an attempted carjacking. He was at a King Soopers in downtown Denver. The second he turned on his car someone opened his driver door and tried to pull him out. He floored it thru the parking lot and the thief ended up letting go. Scary shit.
LOCK YOUR DOORS the instant you get into the vehicle.

- CA: Blue
- TX: Red
- FL: Red
- WA: Blue
- IL: Blue
- CO: Blue
- NY: Blue
- OH: Red
- GA: Red
- MO: Red

50/50 split = scumbags everywhere and that’s with 4/5 Red states allowing constitutional carry.

The two tables that have been posted aren't showing the same thing...I believe the first was ranked per capita or per vehicle, where the second was total thefts, which is kinda meaningless without being normalized by the states population, since it doesn't tell you anything about your statistical probability of being a victim. Probably expressed that way intentionally, since it doesn't look good for blue to sweep the entire top 6.

Fair point: another view of the data as per capita gives us this: which nets 6/4 Red/Blue. Given the variability in, states reporting 2023 stats, per capita also being used as per vehicle, I stand by my original comment of scumbags everywhere.

1. Colorado - 731.28 thefts per 100,000 population - Blue
2. Washington, D.C. - 651 thefts per 100,000 population - Not a state, but predominantly votes Blue
3. California - 700.06 thefts per 100,000 population - Blue
4. Missouri - 480.14 thefts per 100,000 population - Red
5. New Mexico - 440.48 thefts per 100,000 population - Blue
6. Oklahoma - 435.38 thefts per 100,000 population - Red
7. Alaska - 422.18 thefts per 100,000 population - Red
8. Mississippi - 416.71 thefts per 100,000 population - Red
9. Louisiana - 412.12 thefts per 100,000 population - Red
10. Arkansas - 405.73 thefts per 100,000 population - Red

I was going to suggest a concealed battery cut-off switch, but that has the potential to jack up any head unit settings as well as cause issues with OBDII for emissions testing.

Do this but wire in a low amp fuse around the switch for memory circuits. If they try to start it, it will blow the fuse.

I'm still not sure why your population-adjusted list is still so much different than tworley's (you have OK, AK, LA, AR, MS instead of WA, OR, TX, FL, TN), but I think it's notable that there are many red and blue states in the northern half of the country that are absent from both lists, so clearly it's not as simple as red vs blue and is the result of multiple risk factors.

I also think it's notable that there's a 35% jump between the top 3 and the bottom 7, the top 3 being states and a district specifically known for being soft on drug and immigration related crime.

The other leaders have other explanations, like high poverty rates (which typically overlap with drug use), or Alaska which is just a huge area without a population to justify covering it all with law enforcement personnel.

And lastly, for either list, I would be REALLY interested in seeing a map for car theft overlaid with a map for opioid distribution. The addicts will steal cars to get a fix, and the distributors steal them to transport with.

Oklahoma surprises me a bit...contrasted to when I lived in Colorado I never hear about auto theft. I don't know anybody here that's ever had their car stolen. BUT, we legalized medicinal MJ in 2018 with a comically poorly written piece of legislation that set us up to be a major source of black market MJ shipping out to other states. Still, maybe 435 vs 731 per 100k makes the difference in knowing an auto theft victim, or the fact that it's likely concentrated heavily in north Tulsa and south OKC, areas in which I don't really know anybody.

Back to the OP's question...

1) I've used Tuffy products for over a decade. Solidly built, at minimum someone has to put real work in to get them open. If you order multiple things from them, call, and they'll match the locks to the same key.

2) If you don't have it already, you can retrofit the factory security SKIM system. Thread here: https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/sentry-key-immobilizer-module-skim-install-retrofit.44/

3) There's also a DIY option, detailed here: https://wranglertjforum.com/threads...sable-and-enable-your-jeep-wrangler-tj.19054/

Good luck!

After living in CO for 2 years now, focusing your time/energy/money into 'security' of a soft top Jeep is worthless.
I JUST got legal court documents back from the 3rd break-in that happened in my TJ.

If someone wants to break in and take your stuff, they're GOING to break in and take your stuff, regardless of what fancy lock-boxes you have.
I would almost argue that an actual Safe, bolted through the floor is your best option.
From what I've seen of Jeep owners here, Tuffy products are also a good option, until one of the 'fancy thieves' shows up with a cutoff wheel.

As I said, mine has been broken into multiple times now.
The latest endeavor happened in the parking lot of Colorado Springs Airport, with a total of 26 cameras covering the area.
(the police found the people who did it after about 2 weeks, hence the court documents)

At this point of TJ ownership, I just don't carry ANYTHING with value, and I leave my doors unlocked.
At least if someone wants to break in, they don't ruin my soft-top & cost me money by doing so. :ROFLMAO:

If you're concerned about the overall security of your TJ, I would recommend an immobilizer, or hidden ignition kill-switch of some sort.

Mine's been rummaged thru many times too, I've lost count.

The worst was when I had my safari top on. They sliced my soft upper to get in rather than crawl thru the open back🤦‍♂️

You park at the airport!!! I like my vehicles too much to do that. Uber or get dropped off.

I'm telling you. Not even joking.
At this point I leave the Jeep completely unlocked, windows down, etc when it's out of the garage with the soft top.

Take ALL my shit, I can buy more.
Just please don't make me spend $800 on another top. :ROFLMAO:

To be fair, the ONLY things I keep in the Jeep now is my registration, and my radio/head-unit.
Some random little knick-knacks here and there. Total value of stuff in the Jeep , aside from head unit, could be replaced with a $50 bill.
