Rough day.
Wow jealous of the progress or maybe more being on the downhill side of this project. Looks so far away when just starting to pull things.

my theme…so far away…I feel that way after today. Long day…

I’m no mecahanic, welder, fastener expert, hydraulic dude, AC guru, suspension specialist. I’m just a guy. This sucked today. Like suck suck suck.

Full disclosure. I have twin sons. They’re 18. They sorta know their way around a rig, especially Kaleb (he has a TJR)). At noon I asked Joshua if he could help me. He said he had to go meet his girl. Would have taken 10 min to mate the Tranny. Oh well. 4.5 hours later and I’m still at it. Kaleb comes home and starts telling me what i should do and somethings wrong. (It was). I just said, screw this bolt in while I push up here. I mean I had my knees on my chin and my feet on the corner of the tranny pushing with all my might. I’m 50 yrs old. Totally sucked. Got it on only to find out I didn’t get the TC totally seated. It was hard against the flex plate. Probably why it didn’t want to mate. 😟😬 So pissed. Remove. Seat. Repeat. 5.5 hrs. Torqued the 4 bolts from flex plate to TC to 65 ft-lbs. That’s where I am.

Thank you. If the TC had been fully seated I could have got the transmission on much easier. Just a mistake that took hours to figure out. Thanks to Rick @Wildman who mentioned that possibility.

Bummed I was the one who had to tell you to remove the transmission again. Getting the torque converter seated all the way can be a PITA sometimes.

Question, I can’t get the shifter cable to slide into the bracket. I looked at my sons. His looks like it slides further on. Then there is a retaining clip. Do I need to file some of the metal off the bracket so my cable will slide in? Then do you clip the retainer on after?

I don’t have easy access to it with my skids in the way, but here’s a couple pictures of mine. The cable I sent you is the exact same as the one on mine. I think it needs to go on further. I don’t remember struggling to get it in place but it should definitely “pop” in past those extrusions.

Had a number of things to finish up today. Got started by upping the transmission fluid from the 4 qts I added to the 5 qts the FSM says to do when dry (I had thought it was 4 yesterday). Then I started adding the Savvy Auto Transmission mount. Gerald was good to get one out to me back in December. I had already reinforce welded it and painted it a couple months ago so it would be ready to go! Put it on and then put the TCase on. Little did I remember you can't reach the lower transmission mount bolts with the nuts till after I'd done all that and taken the jacks away. Back to square one! Got it right the second time around.

The upper Transmission Cooler lines was hitting the tub. @mrblaine said to clearance it by tweaking it over with a prybar. It's now about 2mm off the tub. 🙂

Spliced in the four fuel pump lines by staggering them at the rail. Typical non-insulated butt connectors and adhesive heat shrink made perfect with the stake on the Klein wire crimpers (thanks again to Blaine). The lines are tucked up nice on top of the rail in loom alongside the brake and fuel lines that are also in loom. Attached the TCase shifter. Added the driveshafts front and rear. Everything looking good.

Inside the cab I bolted in the shifter, then the shifter cable, I bolted the console to the tab I welded in a couple of months ago since I have an '04 shifter on an '05. Put the T handle on, bolted the battery down and hooked it up. Removed the radiator cap so I could burp it. First attempt...

If anyone's wondering, yes, these are the tight quarters I've been working in. Sucks, but I shouldn't complain, some people have to work on dirt.
