Hi everyone, I am in the market for a replacement engine for a 2004 Jeep TJ Sport on 35's and a 4" lift. I Hydrolocked the current one. Insurance is paying $2100 and I could do around $1000-$1500 on top of that (around $3500 budget). I would like to get a crate motor, but Im willing to put it...

99 Wrangler 4.0 Rear Main Seal Leaks at Idle

Gents, I recently acquired a 99 TJ wrangler (RHD) with the inline 6 and five speed transmission. The car is twinlocked, lifted. 32 inch muddies, spotties, rear bar, rock sliders, hardtop etc. etc. etc. with less than 140,000km (or less than 90,000 miles). The car drives great, no fluid leaks...

Replacing engine...what would a smart person do?

OK, so I ripped out the exhaust (and intake) manifold and put back in with a new felpro gasket to see if an exhaust leak was the cause of the nasty ticking noise in my new-to-me 2001 4.0L. Nope, not the prob. It's a main bearing or lifter rod or collapsed lifter, or gremlin poo (or, whatever)...

    Very Confused... kinda

The body plate on my TJ has the code DDQ (= AX5 transmission), but as I'm looking at the transmission, it looks like an AX15... no cast iron section. I'm satisfied with the visual conclusion that I do in fact have an AX15, but the thing that befuddles me is why/how a stock TJ w/ 4.0 in it...

    Risk vs Reward... advice requested

Hey All, Here's my current predicament... 1998 4.0L I'm about to replace my exhaust manifold, and upon reviewing what needs to be done I'm realizing that replacing the head gasket (which I think may be leaking slightly) is only a few bolts away. So now the question is, will that be biting...

    42RLE shifts hard

I've got a 2004 TJ with a 4.0 & 42RLE. About a month ago I replaced the original 42rle at 125k with a reman unit from Powertrain Solutions. I also added a Derale TJ transmission cooler to keep things cool and bypassed the radiator cooler as per the reman companies request. Most of the time the...

Do throttle body spacers work on Jeep Wrangler TJs?

There are some products out there that claim to be able to improve on the already significant engineering that has gone into your motor. The 4.0 engine in the Jeep Wrangler TJ is well known to be a hard engine to get power out of in terms of "bolt-on" modifications. You don't stand to gain any...

How to replace the timing chain on a Wrangler TJ 4.0

While changing the rear main seal, I took a look at the timing chain. It flexed just over half an inch which, according to the factory service manual, means it's up for replacement. All in all about 4 hours. Hardware: Mopar Timing Chain Mopar Camshaft Gear Mopar Crankshaft Gear Mopar front...
