    4WD Troubleshooting

I need some help with videos/resources to understand my 4WD. I keep reading the linkage is the easiest thing to work on but I feel like the basics are skipped in everything I find. I’m also not sure what verbiage I need to search to get the results I want. When I got the jeep, we didn’t...

    Whining Noise when in 4WD

I recently changed the fluid in the Dana 30 front differential and just tried using 4hi for the first time since the change. There was a whining noise like you might expect to hear from power steering when accelerating but not at idle. I don't remember there being any extra noise like that when...

How far could you drive in 4wd with the rear shaft out

My Dana 35 finally blew up and now I need to road trip home to fix it from Florida to Ohio. Is leaving the rear shaft out and driving back in 4hi going to cause excessive wear to my T-case or should it be fine? It’s got the wide chain kit and an sye I also don’t care if the Dana 30 goes just...

    switching transfer case and back

Making progress with my TJ. I towed it behind my RV a couple of times, and it behaves well. One thing I am not sure about is the best way to put it into "toad mode" and back. In the manual it says: put in neutral (Auto transmission), put transfer case into neutral, test that car does not move in...

    TJ won't engage 4WD

So I ran into a issue where my jeep (1998 Tj) would not engage 4wd in a slightly problematic situation. I was trying to tow jetskis offroad on a uphill. To make a long story short, the jeep didn't engage 4wd. The shifter seems to be able to go through all the positions fine, (2H,4H,N,4L) but...

Transfer case linkage adjustment after 1.25” body lift (automatic)

Found adjustment bolt, loosened and slid all the way out but grinding when going from 4H to 4L. What am I doing wrong? Instructions say to be in 4L when doing the adjustment. Doesn’t seem like I can slide it out any farther. Photo posted. The clean metal part is where it was.

    Tranny or transfer case issues?

Hey guys, need some help with my 05 unlimited rubicon. Well, it’s kind of a rubicon. I got a good price for it because the owner before had changed the axles to standard lj axles. I thought the price was good and it would be a fun project to remake it into a rubicon I guess. Anyways, I recently...

    4WD / Transfer Case Issues

Good morning all, I haven't been able to shift into 4WD since I acquired the Jeep back in September. This is my first 4WD vehicle, so I'm not one that can "feel" when it is or is not engaged. Also, the dash light is not working (I replaced the bulb and ran the test to confirm). Recently, I've...

Front Right Tire Drags in 4WD

Here’s the backstory to get everyone up to speed on my situation! If your straight to the problem type scroll down! I purchased a 2005 Jeep Wrangler for my first Jeep and first 4WD car this July in preparation for Winter. I drive this Jeep as a daily from college and work to home and on one of...

4LO grinds / slips going down hills

So I am spending some tie in Colorado and was in 4 low for some time just putting along the trails.. I started going down Imogene trail and my 4 low in 1st isn’t slowing me down at all. It’s making a free spinning noise. Reverse is the same in 4 low, just free spinning. 2nd gear in 4 low seems...

4WD won’t work on my new 2003 Jeep Wrangler TJ

Hey Guys, So I just bought my first TJ today at Auction and have now come to the realization that the 4wd doesnt work. When I put it into 4WD High, the lever sounds like it is engaging but after I do that I am unable to shift into first gear or any other gear(5speed). It feels like the...

Went to put Rosy into 4H and noticed I had no 4WD. No H or L. What could be the issue?

    4WD Issues

Hey guys! I was recently in a front end collision (not my fault) and, after being totally 'fixed' from the collision center, I am unable to operate my 2000 TJ in 4WD. I would take it back to the collision center, but it's been too long now. (I was idiot and didn't try engaging the 4WD before...

Yeah, you really do need 4WD in the snow!

It's quite a rare occurrence for it to ever snow in Portland, Oregon. It was snowing today and it was sticking quite a bit. I decided to take the Jeep out an somehow had myself convinced that I didn't need it in 4WD since the snow wasn't that deep on the roads. First turn I take out of my...

    Engaging 4WD high at speed?

I'm well aware that 4 Low must be engaged when at a complete stop or barely rolling. However, I have heard some people say that while 4 High can be engaged at speed, you should never engage it at speeds over 35 mph. Is this true? If so, what's the reasoning for this?
