2000 2.5 pulling hard right

Started doing this slightly the day I took it in to get a lift. Got out of the shop and immediately drove 180 miles from Austin to Houston - no issues until 2 miles from destination. Slight clutch-like smell coming from front right. Within the next 3 months only took 4-5 short trips under 8 miles and did not notice anything wrong. Well yesterday once the vehicle got up to temp it started pulling hard right then straightens abruptly and pulls left under braking. Pulled over and the sleep from front right is significantly stronger. Limped home 3 miles riding the brake here and there to avoid the hard right pull. Very strong smell. Brakes were replaced 20k ago.

What in the world is going on? I’m a decent “YouTube mechanic” and have done successful repairs on the vehicle.

I should add that the vehicle will be transported from Houston to the Seattle area in 10 days. I will need to drive the vehicle to the pick up spot about 10 miles if possible. Then I can have a mechanic take a peek in Seattle. Otherwise I will need to get a flat bed to tow to transport truck pick up.

YEA BOI the 2.5 is a wild horse!!!!!... Sounds like your brake piston may have locked up on that front right. take apart the caliper replace it if you can grease the piston up and save it.

Ive had this happen like 3 times over the years i just trash them instead of cleaning and greasing.

sounds like a sticking brake caliper. probably warped the rotor from being hot too.

Yea it will make a stank smell if you try to push through you will also start to smoke and possibly catch fire.................dont do that

i always replace the both calipers and rotors . their sooo cheap and once you remove the caliper the rotor just slides off. and your got real hot if you had that smell

Sounds logical. I’ll try this at some point over the next couple days. Trying to pack an entire house and work out logistics of moving 2,500 miles has been a treat. My Birdie just had to throw in a distraction.
