2005 with P0344 issue

Well this morning while sitting in traffic i got a P0340 code.....

reset it to see if it comes back. Thoughts? could the OPDA still be off a little?

If it was set per the FSM, then no, it should be dead on.

If it was not set per the FSM, then it's almost guaranteed to be off somewhat.

Well i am still dealing with the code. This is driving me nuts. I think the OPDA is off a few degrees, so i am going to try and adjust it when i get home due it it throwing the code, in 75+ degree weather.

I do have a question, could the battery have anything to do with it? It seems to be on the low end of the "14 dot". I thought if it's having lower voltage that might be the culprit.

I had the p0344 code come on right after I filled up with gas. Is it possible it is bad gas?

On the way hope I was cruising around 60 mph and then lost power and went down to 40 mph. When I tired to speed back the same thing happened.

Any thoughts on where to start?

Please help, I’m dealing with the same intermittent P0344 code on a New to me 05 LJ with a 4.0. Does anyone else’s Jeep Shutter/Stall/Die when the CEL comes on?

What I’ve done:
Replaced Camshaft Position Sensor
(Code came back after 40 miles)

Replaced ODPA (Doorman Unit) put an Eckler brand Camshaft Position Sensor on
(Code came back after 680 miles)
Old ODPA had some wear nothing crazy. I’ll post pictures when I get home.

Next steps:

Validate Timing

Replace Crankshaft sensor

Pull ODPA boroscope motor to look at the camshaft gear

Check all wires for wear, breaks or grounds.

Questions:

What else can I do?

What part do I replace if I find wear on the Cham shaft gear?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Check the wires first.

Also, keep the OEM sensor, as they are the best.

If the cam gear is shot, you are looking at replacing the cam and lifters.

The contact points should be smooth and shiny on the OPDA gear and the cam gear.
