2005 Wrangler Catalytic Converter Brand

I see a lot of brands for cats for the Jeep TJ ranging from 250-800. My question is has anyone tried the ones from ebay for or the cheaper ones from Amazon?
My fist thought is to get the flow master from Flowmaster 2049170 Catalytic Converter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUT0383/?tag=wranglerorg-20

What brands are proven to work well?

For many of us it isn't so much about brand but instead which cats are C.A.R.B. approved. [California, New York and some other states.] Its a shorter list.

Be sure that whatever unit you purchase will satisfy the smog police in your current state and any state in which you are likely to register or try to sell your jeep in the future.

You will get what you pay for.

I had Eastern Catalytic, which are exactly the same as Flowmaster. Ultimately, it was a waste of $350 and 2 years of lean codes. Then the rear cat hanger ripped open the thin tubing so it sounded like I didn’t have a muffler. I then went with the $900 Magnaflow stainless steel cats - much nicer.

I cannot recommend anything other than Magnaflow SS. The pipes join in front of the oil pan so they are very easy to install. They also fit at least as well as the OE system.

When you do the install, wait until the skid plate is back in place before tightening the bolts at the flanges and muffler to tailpipe nuts. This ensures that there is no tension at the rear cat hanger or the flanges. You will also likely need longer flange bolts and they should be torqued to just 24 ft/lbs, then re-torqued after a few heat/cool cycles.

My Eastern Catalytic system (pre-cats and main cat) has been very reliable in the 5yrs, and roughly 10,000mi, I've owned the Jeep. Granted my LJR is a toy vehicle that is driven on fair weather days from April-October, though I haven't had issue with fitment, fatigue, or failures. I was satisfied enough with the brand to buy a system (currently awaiting installation) for my son's '00 Sahara.
