2006 Rubicon with 120k

The locker parts are pretty much non existent. So whether they can fix it is going to depend on what's wrong. Bad pump, bad air hose, hose off inside of diff are easily fixed. If the actuator inside the diff has blown, I'm not sure that is available new.

That doesn't sound good at all

Yeah, that's not death wobble. Death wobble is when you have to go home and change your undies.

Sounds like tire balance, possibly combined with somewhat worn steering/suspension joints.

They should be able to fix that then. I'm concerned about the rear locker. It stayed flashing on the dash light. Front engaged and stopped flashing but not the rear

First verify if the rear pump is running. The pumps are on the skid plate.

If it is and doesn't turn off after a few seconds, you have an air leak. Hose to diff, hose inside diff cover, or worst case blown actuator.

If it doesn't run, bad pump or wiring.

It's difficult to see the frame clearly with those pics and the poor resolution. I am always concerned when a TJ underside has bolts with black heads. Usually means that rust has been spray painted/coated over. I couldn't tell if that is the case with this one or not?

Also, do you have any pics of the engine compartment?

More and more sellers are becoming savvy at spraying an underbody and hiding rust, but usually a dead give away is the engine compartment.

Look for rusted air box clips, brake boosters usually rust in several locations, the bracket that holds the power steering pump rusts, the stock hose clamps rust and the brackets that hold the horn, the windshield washer reservoir and the cruise control all rust fairly consistently on a TJ that has seen road salt or less than desirable conditions.

Sounds good. Thanks

Thanks everyone. They sold it to someone else. Appreciate all the insight.

Bummer.

The good news is the more you go through this exercise, the more you will know exactly what to watch out for when buying a TJ and the quicker you can jump on the right one when you find it.

Don't give up...it will come along.

Thank you! Yes, I will keep looking

If the locker won’t engage, the first thing you check is if the fill plug is threaded in too deep.

If I wanted the Jeep, I’d pay a small deposit if guaranteed refundable, and say “call me when that light stays lit.”

The locker itself can be blown, a regear gone bad could have the pin in wrong, the internal air line may be degraded, the external line bad, the pump bad, the relay bad, the sensor bad , the wiring bungled where someone tried to modify it to work in 4hi, the pump connections bad to name a few things. Not hopeless, just real. Normally it is something minor.

¡Bienvenido a bordo!

Just be patient, the right Jeep will come along. I spent two years looking for my 2006 LJ Rubi. It had only 33k miles and no rust. An older couple had purchased it to tow behind their motor home as they traveled the country. They made one trip and papa went to the big campground in the sky. Mama sold the motor home and put the Jeep in the garage, where it sat for uncounted years (around 10). I bought it from a dealer in Austin. It's issues were: brake shoes on upside down and backwards, and small rock dings on front of fenders. I replaced the stock headlights, radio, brakes, shocks, and front bumper. I put on new tires and a Warn winch.
Since I'm retired I drive it rarely, but I do get to the beach at Padre at least once a summer.

Good luck!

What do you guys think about this 1998 Sport? I work at an auto auction and we have this one in. Its got somewhere around 120,000 miles, no rust, all original. Dont have a key for it yet so will see how it runs soon.
