3D printable pods for 5.25" in-dash speakers

I assume most, if not all, the dash speaker pods will not clear the headlight switch on the earlier TJs?

I have the Amazon ones I linked above with my 97 TJ.

I ended up drawing my own in Solidworks and printing them on my Ender 3 V2 using standard PLA. They fit 5.25" speakers and mount using the jeeps original mounting holes.

What's nice it that these print as one piece. No screwing, gluing or gasketing parts together.

They could use a bit of refinement as it was a first draft, but I'm happy with how they sound.

Any chance you could let us have the .stl files Obi-Wan? Would love to print these after some tweaking but my CAD skills aren't great. I can tweak an existing design a bit but not real flash at doing one from scratch!

Yup, those are the Select Increments that I went with. Bought them through Crutchfield though.

Same hear! So many manufacturers, like XYZprinting is an economical printer but only 3 star Amazon reviews with many reviewers saying missing parts, broken pieces, stops working after one or two prints, and terrible customer support.

Lulzbot gets much better reveiews but their entry level printer is $1.2k. Then you need to buy filament, a case and before you know it that is $1.5k.

I don't want to spend that much, nor spend any money on a printer that is gonna be a bad experience, so I think I need to wait until prices drop more.

Check out your local library and see if they have a maker space with a 3D printer that you can use.

These are some speaker pods I designed to be 3D printed so that we can all have better audio without costing an arm/leg. If you already have a printer, these can be printed for less than $5 worth of plastic. They made a huge difference in my TJ, so if you have a printer give 'em a try.

Anyone remake the file to fit in tjs with the headlight switch on the kick panel? Looks like its possible if the cad drawing is morphed a bit to get rid of the top right corner on the drivers side. There seems to be plenty of room for the speaker itself in the pod still if this modification were to be made. I made the original print and it just barely doesnt fit. Am literally about to go saw off the corner to see if can squeeze it in and take measurements on how the file should be modified.

Are you making the modifications to the model yourself? I also have a 97 and need a set of dash pods. Did you have to cut the metal frame to make them fit? I have fairly decent Fusion skills and a Bambu printer.

I just threw a little polyfil into a zipped throw pillow behind my front 5.25 speakers. I adjusted the level of polyfil in the throw pillow until I got the perfect sound balance with my rear speakers. Cost was about $10 dollars.

Yes, you have to cut the metal frame. Pretty much gotta get rid of the oval shape of the frame and cut it so the corners of the metal that remains would not jab into the pod. I used a pair of hand shears + plyers for cutting, I preferred to avoid power tools such as a sawzall or jigsaw in that dash area.

I have not modified the 3d print yet, I'm just running the left speaker with my cutup enclosure right now. Good enough for me for now.

Can I assume you have a 2001 or newer TJ?

Mine is a 2000, and the dash-mounted headlight switch means the pod will NOT fit on the driver side.

Also, I wonder if the internals of later TJs are different--mine has sheet metal inside of the dash on both sides that would need cut away in order to fit the pods.
