Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

A lesson learned—keep it light and nimble!

Since I've been home sick for the last three days, I've had time to run some numbers. In keeping with the theme of the build, here's where things stand weight wise. Truth be told, some of the numbers are approximations, but are close. Also, everything is rounded up for consistency.

Stock Vehicle Weight (At purchase time), With Full Tank of Gas and No Passenger - 3,590 lbs
This is a Sport Model, with the only options being full doors, A/C, and automatic transmission

Vehicle Additions
Savvy Double Adjustable Control Arms - 60 lbs
NP241OR - 97 lbs
Dana 44 Rubicon - 230 lbs
Rear UCF Bumper (W/Hardware) 43 lbs
Savvy Front Bumper (W/Hardware, Hoop, Winch Plate, and Hardcore Ends) - 35 lbs
Tires and Wheels (Pro Comp 69 15x8 and Mickey Thompson 31" MTZP3) - 66 lb ea
Warn XP Winch and TRE 3/8 Rope, Thimble and Fairlead - 55 lbs
Savvy Rocker Guards and Sliders, Left and Right, with Hardware - 63 lbs
Total Added Weight = 913 lbs

*Removed Parts

Stock Control Arms - 22 lbs
NP231J - 72 lbs
Dana 35 - 170 lbs
Stock Front and Rear Bumpers, with Tow Hooks - 40 lbs
Stock Steel Wheels and Tires (One 31x10.50 (66lbs) and Four 235/75R15 (55lb ea) - 286 lbs
Total Removed Parts = 590 lbs

*Side note #1:
The Combination of the Savvy UA and Gas Tank Skid weight was approximately the same as the removed factory steel automatic transmission, transfer case, and gas tank skids. This resulted in no appreciable weight gain, but significant ground clearance improvements in key areas. Also, other parts that were swapped in, e.g. Swaylock, hubs, etc. weren't counted because the weights were basically the same as parts removed. Like the skids, this balanced the equation.

Final vehicle weight, to date, (With Full Tank of Gas and No Passenger) - 3950 lbs
Minus original vehicle weight (With Full Tank of Gas and No Passenger) - 3,590 lbs
= 360 lb difference**

** Side Note #2:
There is a 37 lb discrepancy between my original and current weight. This could be the scale, or an error in the items I approximated weight for. In either case, I'm happy that the vehicle weight has stayed under 4,000 lbs, even with adding weight, and I've stayed true to my build plan.

Next up, what I gained as a result of all the work and money! ;)

This has been a tough week for me. I've been home all week sick. To make matters worse, I went downstairs yesterday to attempt 30 minutes on the treadmill, only to discover it covered with water from a leak. :( Fortunately, I got it early and the leak wasn't as bad as it could have been (I installed a tile floor, which made clean up much easier). The leak is fixed, but now I need to patch the hole I cut in the ceiling for access.

On the positive side, the new Jeep arrival will be here tomorrow. :)

BTW, incredibly creative screen name! :)
Hey thanks! I was reading a service manual a lifetime ago and came across "PRNDL" inline in a sentence and it took me a solid 5 minutes to figure out what it meant. Its been my screen name on various Jeep forums ever since. Even that doesn't make much sense, all of my Jeeps have been 5 speeds. 🤷‍♂️

You know that the fact you know all of this just baffles my mind.
The only reason I know my rig is piggy is someone had brought portable scales to an event I was at.

I've been a tad bit obsessed with monitoring weight on this one, kept a spreadsheet of numbers, and have gained some knowledge as a result of tracking it. After doing so, I fully understand why @mrblaine started designing aluminum into his solutions. The benefits become apparent pretty quickly. In my case, I can no longer say I don't know!

I know of a certain Midnight Blue LJ on 35s with some walker evens beadlocks that looks just right.
My wife liked that one too. I tailed him one time on TOTW. I’d like the extra space of an LJ. Mike does have a great LJ.

Now I have to block you! :D
You’ve already got one on 35’s. This ones not a Rubi, so you’re going to regear anyway, so that knocks 31 and 32’s out. Watcha thinking 🤔?

It's highly likely the Patriot Blue one will be finding a new home. Lots going on in my life now that I won't go into here. Suffice it to say I'll be stepping down in tire size and use what was learned on the TJ. Happy to chat on the phone, if you have time. I can explain there!
