I'd skim over the 2.5L engines, and the Dana 35 Rear Axles, unless you find one in just absolute mint condition.
(4.0L w/ Dana 44 is significantly more desirable in many ways)

And the Dana 35 rear axle is generally regarded as just being a shit-gamble.
Some people beat them for years, some blow them in parking lots.

You're not incorrect, but the issue with your statement lies in the fact that a Dana 35 HAS to be upgraded to compare to a Dana 44.
Stock for Stock, the Dana 35 is the weaker axle, as the 2.5L is the weaker engine. It just is what it is.

When a TJ w/ Dana 44 could just be bought in the first place, there's no feasible reason to choose the Dana 35 over the Dana 44 in OP's situation UNLESS it's an unpassable deal.
