None around here except in tropical fish stores...not that I could eat them though. Shellfish allergy even applies to these.

Used to catch them by hand in the creeks and traps in the larger streams and rivers.

Sounds like I need to live a lot closer to one of you guys , 1: who know how to catch them 2: Knows how to make a wonderful Cajun boil. 3: Would invite a Rocky mountain guy to supper !
Just go to Walmart and buy them frozen.
Lemons, corn, mushrooms, heads of garlic, andouille, onions etc
All that in a pot full of water and seasoning.
Bring that to a boil and toss in the frozen crawfish and shrimp, bring it back to a boil for a few minutes and kill the heat for half hour or so until everything sucks up the water and sinks to the bottom.
Enjoy all that with some warm buttered French bread and ice tea or beverage of choice.
Let's do one on top of a mountain and make these Flatlanders jealous

That’s an awesome wildlife experience!The one I caught was 7 inch. , the crayfish grabbed my lure when I was reeling it in and i had to pry his claw open to get him off the line , I put it in a stainless pot live in water to cook and eat . We walk to the next campsite to talk to friends , and I watched a Raven fly down , fight with the crayfish then fly away with it ! We went and looked and the crayfishes main claws were sniped off and in the pot. This sums up my fishing experience with crayfish.

In South Louisiana we loaded up an Igloo 48 quart ice chest in a half hour. Had to stop because every time we opened the ice chest more tried to escape than we were dumping in from the nets. Didn’t expect we needed more than one 48 quart ice chest. Lesson learned.
Not as plentiful up here because most every place you find them the fish will eat them.
