Nope in Washington and other states you can go buy that 45' motorhome and stacker trailer ($1,000,000) and are not required to have anything other than your Class C license even if the largest thing you've ever driven is a Pinto.
Some states require a Non-CDL Class A license but I don't know what you're required to do to obtain it. Texas is one state that has a non-CDL CLass A license. Remember the CDL part is a commercial license required if you are hauling something for commerce. (Getting paid to transport items)

Yep, plus you get 65+ year old people buying these big rigs. Not saying you can't drive one at that age since I'm close to it but there are a lot of reasons if you've never driven anything larger than pickup it's a good idea to get some training.

One of my retired teacher friends said this regarding drivers in general:
"They test you when you're 16 and retest you when you're 80, that's 64 years of bad habits"

Driving X-country in a motorhome is certainly an eye opener as well as driving semis local to the farm.

I'll take the 70 yo in the motorhome over the 20 yo with the zoomy pipe and stick on trunk wing any day.
