A lot of it depends on the city, county, and town, as well as the judge. Needless to say there are a lot of people in jail for crimes that don’t necessarily deserve jail time. I’m for prison reform as long as it’s reasonable and rational. Sadly that is unlikely to happen because the people running our country and in charge of legislation are neither reasonable nor rational. In fact, the majority of them are quite frankly stupid.
I think you're probably right that it boils down to what the DA will prosecute. But the DA can only prosecute laws that are on the books so that points back at the legislators to remove outdated and/or unjust laws.
I think the race card is a little over played when it comes to criminals being let go for certain crimes just because of their skin color. The media hypes up arrests of certain groups and downplays or buries the story if it disproves their narrative.
It's less about color and more about privilege, specifically political privilege!
Like I said there needs to be a way to rapidly and accurately detect how much is in your system (because THC lasts a LOT longer in your body than alcohol). That test I linked to is on the right track, but how much is too much and over how long of a time period? That test said it goes back 12 hours... Alcohol is Zero tolerance and a breathalyzer can detect up to 12 hours prior consumption, what should marijuana be? zero tolerance too? The problem with that is the longer you have smoked it the longer it stays detectable in your system, even after the effects have gone away... I'm sorry if I don't want to trust the lives of countless drivers on the roads in the united states to uncertainty as to how to figure all that out...
Once they determine what is acceptable and what's not I say go for it... It's no sweat off my back if people enjoy the smoke...

How are they doing this in all the states where it's legal now?
One way would be to either train police to deal with mental illness or not haha police respond to mental health related calls unless there are weapons involved.
Most police are not setup or equipped to handle or respond to calls that involve someone who is mentally ill and may be experiencing a mania or other moment. Those types of situations can generally be handled a lot better if a trained professional is there to talk to them.
My wife has bi-polar disorder. I’ve been through this before quite a few times so I speak from experience.
There are many ways that good, logical police reform can come about and there’s no reason it shouldn’t. Reform is entirely different than defund. One makes sense, the other does not.
