So... I work for a very large consulting company (31K employees) and our life insurance benefits have jumped nearly 25% in the last 3 years. Disability policies have jumped significantly as well. These are employment costs. As an overall % of total employment costs they are probably 1% or so. Add in the typical 5% healthcare increase and the other "fringe benefit" costs and this number is easily correct.
