Yup... the Cold War had ended and we had a decade of prosperity without wars... can't have people forgetting that the rest of the world is evil and that we're the only thing that's good that can stop "them".

Also, of note... at that time we had a 100B budget Deficit.... 7 years later is was $1T and $5T in debt. Now we're $35T in debt and the interest will be over $1.75T a year. The DC area has the only houses in the nation that haven't ever lost any value since then as well.
