I recently had something similar to this happen.
I got a drink at a gas station and the total was $1.08
I knew the total was going to be $1.08 so I had that exact amount in change.
I handed her the change and you would've thought I handed her an alien artifact.
Blank confusion as she desperately searched for the forgotten skills of counting.
I will admit I made it harder on her by giving her a combination of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.
It was enough to make her twirl her lip piercing.

I had a similar experience at a McDonalds recently.
The total came to, like $5.35 or something. I gave her a $10 bill, then said "Hold on, I'll make it easier for you."
I dug through my change and got the correct change, a quarter and a dime.
That sent her into a loop!
She stood there stairing at her till until I finally said "That makes it $5 back to me."
It took her a second, but finally did seem to either comprehend or just give up and believe me.
Couldn't believe it....
My first job was McDs, back in the previous millennium, and the registers had currency buttons: $20, $5, quarter, nickel, etc. Didn't have to count or add or anything, just push the button to match each piece of physical cash handed over.
