Oh yeah!!! We were definitely screamin', especially when the cut was somewhere not toughened up by repeated exposures to abuse!!

I vividly remember the worst time for me was when I stepped on a piece of glass in a lake and ended up with a roughly 3" long 1 to 2 inch deep cut in the middle of my foot. Grandma, had my older brother sit on my leg so I couldn't pull it away as she mercilessly applied the liquid fire to the cut!!!

My grandparents and parents use Merthiolate on me, my brother, and my cousins.


Both pulled from use for "heavy metals" and supposedly being "relatively weak at killing germs".

And none of us died from it, (as far as I know).

Hell, some from our era used to eat paint chips from lead based paint... I think the worst that did was cause those that were aflicted with Plumbophagia, to become democrats...
