if I stretch
Haha, as if there's a question.
Haha! As of right now these sliders are reserved for when I stretch my Jeep because I am hopelessly addicted to improving and bettering my Jeep.
Forgot I still needed to weld on an exhaust hanger and mini skids for my dads Jeep. The weld to the tube isn’t perfect but it isn’t horrible swirly twirly gumdrop shit either!

Good lord… that looks insanely good to me. My welds are sporadic, blotchy, lumpy messes.
Please teach me something. What is the horizontal piece on the diff cover for?

It's the third leg that keeps the mini truss from ripping off.

Pretty sure it is a moron trap.
If you were asking seriously .. what you are looking at is a stock differential cover with a ramped protective part welded onto the bottom part. Protection where you need it without affecting clearance (with track bar etc). Many people run these front and rear.

I think he was talking about the angled bracket on top of the diff cover. That is there for extra strength on the truss. It provides a mechanical connection from the truss to the housing so that mediocre welders like me can be sure the truss will stay put.
The housing was just a little worn down on the bottom. The barnett cover hangs down a little lower than the housing (this cover is used but was never on this axle).

I wanted to add a little meat to the bottom of the axle and add a “wear layer” to extend its life. Blaine came up with the idea. I started by cutting some small notches in the housing.
View attachment 361061Then bolted a piece of 1/4” aluminum scrap to the housing as a backer

Weld some beads on

Grind it smooth ish. It doesn’t have to look perfect, it’s going to get drug over rocks anyways.
