That is a bit scary. How does one snap off bolts in a torque converter without there being some major underlying issue?Victory is mineView attachment 224337

I have no idea. I was wondering the same thing. Only thing I can think of is over tightening the bolt against the back wall of the hole. But that would have happened during an install not a removal...That is a bit scary. How does one snap off bolts in a torque converter without there being some major underlying issue?
Unless the threaded weldments are not threaded all the way through, the converter shell won't stop a bolt. They are not very thick.Never underestimate a previous owner. Maybe the bolts they used were too long?
It makes very little sense. I cant come up with a good reason why 2 of those would be broken.Unless the threaded weldments are not threaded all the way through, the converter shell won't stop a bolt. They are not very thick.

I’ll test out the threads tomorrow. Didn’t have enough time to bolt up the tranny today.Unless the threaded weldments are not threaded all the way through, the converter shell won't stop a bolt. They are not very thick.
Luckily that looks cut instead of failed. Lucky you! Here’s what it looked like

Very possible but they are typically odd bolts in that the head size is larger than typical. I've messed with quite a few and you'd have to be pretty special to even begin to get one to round off and start stripping. Your picture shows they likely were just in a hurry and cut the heads off.I’ll test out the threads tomorrow. Didn’t have enough time to bolt up the tranny today.
Alternate theory, the bolt heads were stripped when they were removing the trans and had to cut the bolt heads off to remove it from the flexplate?

Let me translate that for those following along. I'm going to wait until it gets too hot to drive the rig anywhere whilst forgetting that also means it is too damn hot to work on it and by the time I figure that out it will be fall again and cool enough that it doesn't matter.I will. Just not yet. Im putting a temp gauge in now and will monitor the temps but will most likely put a setrab cooler in once it’s warmer out.
The only previous owner I love is the one who previously owned my garage. He left a portable swamp cooler in there that I blast in the summer. I’ll get the cooler done. Just needed to break the project into manageable chunks.Let me translate that for those following along. Exactly. I don’t even know how to do the tomorrow jobs yet just been breaking it into manageable chunks each day. This thread reminds me of that old gospel song, "one day at a time, sweet Jesus."
I'm thinking about dropping my tranny Garrett, to put in a new clutch. Seeing how much of a PITA it is, I may just want to do a 32rh swap!Exactly. I don’t even know how to do the tomorrow jobs yet just been breaking it into manageable chunks each day.
