A few friends an I are interested in doing Blanca peak sometime this summer and I was wondering if any other South Western 4x4ers have done this trail and have any recommendations?

We're thinking of making a weekend out of it with something along the lines of:

Friday afternoon: Drive from Denver down across Medano Pass - camp somewhere on Medano Pass trail Friday night.
Saturday Morning: Drive the rest of Medano Pass - maybe fool around on the sand dunes - then Begin Blanca Peak 4x4 Trail.
Saturday Night: Camp up at Lake Como (~12,000ft) and have a good dinner.
Sunday Morning: Possibly attempt the last trail feature (Jaws 4) And then head down to Alamosa to head back home. Avoiding Medano Pass and going right to I-25 for the "faster route"

Lake Como:
89947

Jaws 2:
89948

Wanted to hear from anyone who's done this trail before and whether the Jaws features live up to their name... I'm assuming Jaws 2 does haha.

I have been wanting to run this one for about a year now. From what I have heard I would expect some level of damage. I'd also suggest getting up first thing in the morning and running the trail. Since it takes such a long time it would probably be wise to try and avoid any late afternoon squalls that may happen.

I ran Medano few years ago. It's a sandy dirt road through the woods. Nothing special beyond some nice scenery. The sand dunes are fun to see.
