Blown 4.0 engine: Any suggestions on crate replacements?

What was the ballpark price for this?

$4k, which effectively doubled my investment in this vehicle. Since I bought it so cheap, and then fell in love with it, I have no problem with the outlay so far.

Went with Jasper, and so far very happy. They replaced water pump, oil pump, all hoses (which cleared my CEL for small vac leak) and one motor mount (knocked that off my to-do list as well). It ran great for a couple days, but then developed a stumble and hard start. Got me right back in and found an injector that (I think) had bad O-ring. Runs so smooth and quiet now, I can't believe it.

Had them look at the clutch while they had the motor out, and they said it looked fine, so THAT'S off my list as well. They did replace the pilot bearing, and the shifting is much easier and smoother.

All in all, can't recommend them enough, especially since the 5-year warranty is nation wide. If I blow it up in 2022 at TJ Fest II, I won't have to tow it home!

Glad to hear its back on the road again. ill waive when I see you around town out that way. pretty familiar with the area, went to the school off Spencer at the top of the hill on the sharp corner for a few short years.

On your future trip to tj fest there and back, avoid driving through Gary Indiana! take the next shortest route. you'll save yourself much traffic frustration. ive pulled my hair out the 6 times through the area. not doing that again, doesn't matter what time of day or day it is, it is nothing but bumper to bumper and moving at a crawl for miles each time.

Coming up on two years, and the engine runs as smoothly as it did after the initial hiccup with an injector O-ring. 20K miles on it, and I am probably tempting the Jeep gods with this post, so I'll knock on wood, etc. I only have good things to say as far as my experience with the Jasper crate 4.0.

I don’t have 1st hand experience but I knew a guy who had a Golen 4.6L 270hp Stroker Engine and he loved it. Some people like them some don’t but if/when I need to replace my 4.0 I’m going to look really hard at this engine.

The Hulk (2001 Forest Green Sahara) developed severe noise that I suspect was piston slap a week or so ago, and last night it died on the freeway on the way home from work. Had it towed to local shop I trust, who called this afternoon and said motor was blown (no real details in the voice mail).

232,000 miles on the body, but the frame is in good shape and I've got a bunch of parts lined up waiting for warmer weather. I enjoy just tinkering on the damn thing, and in the 10 months I've owned it, I've come to realize I'll probably never sell it. So, I'm thinking a crate motor is my next step. Looking for advice, horror stories, recommendations, etc. Thanks!

I have a 2003 TJ Wrangler I just swapped the old 4.0 out for a new crate 4.0 with scorpion rocker off-road rockers and oversized exhaust ports I only paid $3,600 for the motor at Titan engines I am very satisfied with their work
