Dec 2024 - How much do you think this jeep is worth?

Greetings! It's been a number of years since I've been active on an auto forum but since the information from this group (through non-member searching) has been so helpful prior to my purchase I thought it would be good to sign up to collect some qualified feedback.

Yesterday I picked up a rust free (I'm in MN, the Jeep is from TX) tan Rubicon with 90k miles and appears to be in great mechanical (original) condition. I'm passing my current Jeep Liberty on to my middle daughter to drive so the TJ will become my daily driver. I have 2 months to knock out some initial projects that include a lift, different wheels / tires combo, stereo upgrade and some ancillary items.

I've been doing some searching on these items in the forum so far and have most of what I was hoping to find. The one item that I am seeking some advice on relates to rust prevention. As of today, this Jeep has zero (and I really got up an into it underneath today) rust. Now I live in MN and have a heated garage (and an unlimited carwash that I use almost daily) but still, I feel I need to do something to protect this to the best of my ability.

Thoughts on undercoating (argh), hosing it down in Fluid Film, etc??? Any areas in particular I should focus on? This is my first TJ so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I appreciate all of the feedback! Planning to drill the weep holes sometime this week and then the fluid film goes in. Regarding the upgrades, they have to happen now while I have the greenlight from the wife and about 60 day before my middle kid needs my current ride. Here is the list I've worked up and You'll be able to tell what I'm working up. Again, this will be a daily driver and a pretty mild build. The Jeep is currently stock with the exception of the 16 inch wheels and BFG 31's (LT's) that I'm selling locally. The guy I bought it from did a full front end rebuild with stock parts.

I'd take any and all feedback. Thanks so much!

You may want a more sturdy phone mount if you go off road. I don't use a mag safe if my jeep, I use a bullet mount. https://www.bulletpointmountingsolutions.com/

Those nerf bars will not do well off-road, but just for around town it will be fine.

When I owned expensive sports cars I did worry about rust so I didn't drive them in winter. Jeep is a 4x4 that is cheap and meant to be used all year round so I will do that. My jeep is from California and has no rust. It will take 20 years to get that rusty.

No, it won’t. You need to fluid film it every year. Pay attention to the body as well. They didn’t paint the bottom of the tubs, and when they spot welded them together, the zinc plating was burned off. That’s where the rust starts on the tubs…between the seams where you can’t see it until it’s too late.

The rust on the frames starts inside. If it were me and I was planning on driving year round in the Midwest, I’d use the Eastwood frame coat and fluid film afterwards

And here's another prime example of another jeep in Ohio the owner that didn't worry about fucking rust !

Ignorance is bliss. Just drive it until the frame breaks into pieces.

I use multiple cans of Eastwood internal frame coating BEFORE spraying Fluid Film inside the frame. I power wash my Jeep off immediately after driving on salted roads. The Fluid Film comes off with the salt. :(

that's what I did years ago, began with a good internal frame prep with the 'pummeler' followed by cleaning with forced air, vacuuming & running a magnet through to pick up anything that way, drilled drain holes, then in with multiple cans of Eastwood from stem to stern, then a final application of Fluid Film on top of that just in case there is a breach of the Eastwood, the Fluid Film will seep in there & prevent water/oxygen from getting at the bare iron & doing what it does. A couple times a year I check the condition of the film to confirm it's still there & still viscous, though it never leaves my garage unless it's a sunny day and the roads are dry. I can tell you that it's been a few years since the first application & it feels identical to the day I squirted it all in there.
