Damn i know there is no way to look at that and say this will collapse in a couple days but an inspector for the city should have come out at that point and hopefully could have deemed it unsafe and told everyone to leave.

I'm not sure how they even know how many people are unaccounted for. How do they know half the units weren't filled with airbnb guests from out of state? and who the people are?

The 11 are just the confirmed and identified. The building manager stated early on that the building was fairly full. Sadly they will generally only recover body parts and it will take a while to identify the individual. They will probably start asking families for DNA samples in the future. At this point they are still treating it as a rescue operation but eventually will pivot to recovery.

Buildings in the western world do not just fall down!
How tragic and at 1am in the morning!
Its times like this that make me realize my volunteer USAR rescue training could be needed anytime anywhere even though I am not as active as I used to be.
Sad day in this totally upside down back to front world we seem to have very quickly inherited.

Not related but I see more problems arising in the future since Australia adopted the quick simple Chinese building methods with materials imported from China. I hope I am wrong!
