Buying a TJ

Hi Everyone! Brand new here.

I'm buying a 2001 Sport in Forest Green over Tan with a Tan hardtop, full size doors.

72,000 miles.

Bone stock, except for a set of pucks in the coils up front to level it out, and the current owner (2nd of 2) added the Jeep hardtop.

5 speed with the I-6 (4.0) and a factory optioned Dana 44 in the rear.

I crawled around all under it and under the hood and found no leaks in the usual places (rear main seal, oil pan, valve cover gasket, diffs, driveline).

All the steering and suspension components are stock, and it drives wonderfully.

Tracks straight at 70, no wobble, no pulls. AC and heater work well, no apparent electrical gremlins.

It does need a set of tires.

Undercarriage (frame) has some surface rust at the welds and at some of the frame holes, but I beat on it and it's not cancerous, so I'm optimistic. Nothing I wouldn't have expected with a 20 year old vehicle. Floor pans are solid, body is straight. No accidents.

This will be a first vehicle for my 15 year old Daughter.

What else might I be missing?

I've owned a CJ that I sold to my dad, and now I'm driving a 2019 JLUR, that I've built up.

This one will remain in stock for for quite a while as she learns to drive.

Check brake fluid, change if needed. Check brake pads/shoes and replace if needed.

Yes sir! That's a great call out. It is a Texas Jeep, 2nd owner is an Airman stationed in SAT, and it's always been down here. It's registered up there because that his official residence.

GENERALLY, pretty understandable, as standard among the younger military folks. At least the ones I've known while living here.

I bought my one owner, Texas Jeep from a retired Air Force guy that had recently moved to Washington D.C.

As a former USAF Airman, I always hated that term lol. Airman always sounded like something straight out of a comic book to me. Too bad the Marines already took that name, I would have liked it a lot better. I definitely would never had made it through Marine boot camp.
