California smog legal engine options

Do I have any options.

First considered the Magnum Powers Super charger- not legal.

Then considered the Banks Turbo- I believe discontinued for smog and other reasons for the early model engines.

Stroker from Russ?

Crate engine from: Titan, ATK or Golen?

Stay stock and do a Master rebuild kit on existing?.

What are my California Jeep friends doing for more power and having to deal with California crap.

Yes I am moving out-but it may not happen for 5 or 10 years.

Jeep will be 75% road and 25 trails.

Did you know that not everyone in Calif. needs a smog check every two years?

These counties are exempt from Smog checks every two years.


If you live in six counties that require smog certifications within certain Zip Codes only. These counties are:
El Dorado, Placer, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Sonoma.

If you leave your Jeep in those counties that are exempt or an exempt zip code in the six counties and inform the DMV that is is not at your house but is at your vacation home ( Hint Hint) in an exempt county or Zip code, they will enter a code into the computer and no longer will you need to get it smogged every two years.

Sounds like I owe you a case of beer just for the info. I do live in San Diego so wouldn’t your registration need to be in one of the other counties?

I would think a stroker (like the Golen) would be fine if you keep most everything else stock, particularly the exhaust. I believe the Golen doesn't even tune the PCM, but instead tricks the PCM into thinking it is a 4.0.

When I lived in Orange County all my cars and trucks even my DD were said to be in Boreggo Springs.
For over 15 years I used the address 610 Palm Canyon Dr.
You just fill out a statement of Facts with DMV.
Never had to do the biannual smog check on any of them.
My Registrations went to my house in Costa Mesa.
