Different door seals by year or trim level?

This is an odd one.

Background: My father-n-law purchased a salvaged 2004 Rubicon in 2012 and then replaced the passenger side door.

I now own this vehicle and was just investigating my door seals and discovered the stock drivers side door seal attaches to the door via fasteners. The passenger side — the one he replaced —- has a non fastening door seal that sits inside of a molded track. So Im wondering: what year or trim level did the passenger side door come from
so that I can order the proper replacement seal?

Any ideas?

The following is 100% accurate for factory half doors. I have done this work myself so I know it works. I ASSUME it’s the same for the full doors, but I do not know that for a fact...

The weatherstripping that fits in the channel is the early style that they went away from a couple years before your TJ was made…

The aftermarket seals are the later factory style that clip into the door itself. Luckily the old style seal/channel and newer style seal both share some existing holes used for the clips that they each utilize. That makes the next paragraph easily possible…

The best “fix” is to take your passenger side door, remove the channel, toss the channel in the trash and then drill the extra holes needed (3/16” I believe) to replicate the later door seal fitment. The existing holes that are there already line up with some of clips in the later style seal. So you can use the existing holes to measure from and drill the needed/missing holes. Use your Driver’s door as the template…
