Doing rear drum brakes? A must read!

They really aren't expensive either. I can do the whole job with one of these and a standard set of pliers. I think I paid $5 for one at Oreillys 5-10 years ago.

Precisely. A well-designed and very effective tool. Most of the brake tools I've encountered, even the cheapest ones, will get the job done. The better quality ones will just do it for a longer period of time. (y)

I just want to add my .02

I have been fighting the slack in my adjuster for a bit. I have come to realize that it will help keep the cable guide fully seated if you hook the big white spring of the rearward (secondary) shoe to the anchor post first. Most inboard of the two big springs. Then hook the big white spring for the front (primary) shoe on the anchor post. The secondary shoe spring now lays more flat and presses against the cable guide, keeping it in place.
