Thinking of getting the selectable Eaton e locker... pretty good backyard mechanic but never messed with gears... probably have a shop do it.... I've heard something about a compressor needed is that true?...if anyone has Paid a shop to put it in the front how much?
I'd do it yourself. Shops tend to slam them out.
Did a Super 30 and 35 on mine.

I'm running an Eaton elocker in my super35 and I love it. I did the installation myself, reusing my existing gears, which means I didn't have to mess with the pinion. Just swap carriers and set backlash, which took probably 6 attempts for me.
It's the backlash that scares me the most...I just got regeared a few years ago so I'm keeping my 4:56's

The Eaton E-locker is an electrically actuated locker. No compressor needed. The ARB air locker and Yukon Zip locker are air actuated and require a compressor or source of regulated compressed air.I've heard something about a compressor needed is that true?
I had a shop do the lockers and regear. They ... guarantee the work ... .
3/4 ths of the bill was for parts and in line with what I could get them for online.
Emphasis bolded. That is the entire reason I had a shop do the work. As long as you follow the break in procedure the shop will honor the warranty if something was screwed up on the installation.
As I recall the price per axle was $3000-3500 (post-Covid pricing). It included the locker, wiring, switches, new gears, axle seals, bearings, etc. Basically, I drove away with "new" differentials minus the housing, axle shafts, and u-joints when I left the shop.
I understand you guys wanting a little peace-of-mind with a guarantee on new gears, but if the OP is reusing his current gears, which he is, then there is no break-in.
That cost sounds about average. My actual cost for a Super35 setup was around $1,750 with me doing all labor and hunting down the best prices documented here > https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/super-35-cost.69877/
@gatertamer What axle are you putting this into?
