Excessive Bounce / Body Roll?

Sorry you're having so much trouble getting it sorted out. I hope it's just a bad set of shocks, and if they replace them, the ride gets better. My neighbor installed ranchos and then removed them because he thought they rode to stiff. Mine seem to work as expected. Good luck Bro

I don't know that RS5000X are bad or good but I had to fix what "Trends Auto" just basically said.
At this point I'd definitely do the exchange to verify if the current ones are the problem. If the originals weren't the problem, and you just don't like the ride from the 2nd set of RS5000x, you could sell them as shocks with less than XX miles and tell the potential buyers you just don't like them. Yeah, you may lose a little cash (maybe 25%) but that's what happens if it ends up being your mistake.

They were lying, the RS5000x is one of Rancho's newer upgraded gas-charged models. Rancho's most basic shock is the old stiff riding hydraulic RS5000. Are you sure what you purchased and what they shipped to you was the RS5000x and not the RS5000? Did you have to use your muscles to hold them compressed so you could install them or would they hold their position once set to the right length during the installation?
I'm getting ready to go back to RS5000x shocks within the month or so, they were in the top two of the best-riding shocks I've installed onto my TJ and I've installed a lot of different shocks since taking delivery of my '97 in 1996.
The Rancho packaging had the right part numbers on the boxes - RS55128 and RS55240. Perhaps a mistake was made at the factory?
In my attempts to work with them they also sent me a few insults so.... not surprised they are wrong.
I told Rancho what they said about their shocks - no response back - guess they don't care or not interested in defending their own product.

That confirms they were the newer RS5000X and not the older hydraulic RS5000.
the ending of the video when you shake it, it kinda bounces a bit after you let go. looks like maybe underdamped so makes me think its shock related. I have skyjacker blackmax shocks that do ok. Had one blow out within warranty period but it was replaced for free.
Rancho (well the manufacturer Driv) took 10 days to get back to me. They looked at the video and confirmed they are duds.

I just clicked the link to get here from the "What did you do to your TJ today?" thread.
I hoped to see an update of some sort so I'll ask:
Did they say all your shocks were duds, or just some of them, and how would they know anyway?
Did you get the new replacements yet and have you tried them or do you even plan on trying them?
Or did you decide to use another brand?
They looked at the video and asked me to return all of them for replacement. I'm currently traveling so can't take them off to return them until September. I will try the replacements and if they are bad as well I guess I will return them for a third set, sell them unused and get something else.

Take out your Ranchos and install Bilstein 5100s in the right length. BTW, both those shocks suck, btw, despite what you hear and read. They just suck in different ways.
You may be better off with a stock style replacement.
I read on here that the Bilsteins are very hard on TJs. What are you currently running?
