About 2-3 weeks back I was heading down the highway (2000 TJ 2.5L manual 185,xxx miles) and I heard an odd clicking, something repetitive like the sound of spinning a prize wheel from the engine bay. I clutched, went to neutral, and the clicking got quieter, I put it back into gear and accelerated which made the clicking ramp up drastically and then I lost all power...
Took it to a sketchy shop the tow company recommended and they didn't do anything to it, brought it back home and took the valve cover off myself. Found a bent rod and met milky oil... took the head off and found my #4 piston had been completely disintegrated and the piston arm (?) had gouged the cylinder. A more mechanically gifted family friend helped along the way of disassembling and decided it needs a new engine entirely.
I'm coming here for some advice:
a. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue and could possibly clue me into the cause?
b. Is the engine totally shot, and if so where is a reputable place to find an engine for sale?
c. Rebuild, Re-manufactured, Crate, or Used?
Lastly, if anyone has one for sale please let me know!
