As I cleaned out HRNT, I remembered how excited I was to finally have a Jeep, I waited and saved for 3 years. I'll definitely be sad to see it loaded on a trailer and driven away. Maybe I stay in the house for that part.

I finished off building a beach buggy about 10 years and had to sell due to money issues...hated watching that thing go....Hopefully HRNT 2 will bring new joy and excitement.Man, this is so sad. Can you post some ideas of what you are looking for so we can help? Like what are ideal features for HRNT2 and what are deal breakers?
I can look in TX and OK if you want a nice one from down here. I've made the drive from Texas to Iowa several times and it's not too bad!

Thanks @LTTJ, I'm looking for a TJ Rubicon, any color but red. I prefer an automatic transmission & a hard top. Ideally, I would like to stay in the 15k-17k price range. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm not finding much around here.

Wow, I do like that white, that's pretty nice. I could buy that today with the check from the insurance company. They gave me 11 thousand for HRNT so I wouldn't need to finance much, or preferably, any.
I am willing to travel, how far is the question. What happens if you drive 2 or 3 hundred miles and it isn't what you expected. I'll be pissed.

That white one does look nice. Do we know anyone near Houston that could go get some more pictures? Or maybe the seller would provide more pictures? My only concern with it is that the gulf can be just as bad on the undercarriage as living up north. Some pictures of the frame would be nice.

See, I won't go anywhere outside of about 30 minutes driving distance, unless the owner sends me photos of the underside, and I mean high resolution photos too. I want to make sure there is no rust before I drive 300+ miles.
So I would reach out to long distance sellers and ask them for more detailed high resolution photos. Let them know you'd like to know any issues that it might have before you drive all that way. Most sensible people will understand that.
Specifically states priced at 89% below market value due to rust. I'd pass

ive seen this one listed for months and never saw that. 89% d/t rust. Must be pretty bad underneath because it looks nice. Wondered why this hasn't sold yet.
This situation with HRNT is getting more and more strange by the day. Like as in most salvage claims, the inusrance company gave me the option to buy the Jeep back, which was my gut feeling from the start.
I looked around for a new Jeep for a week, but was going back and forth in my mind about getting a loan. I made the decison to go ahead and let HRNT go, reluctantly at best and try for a new Jeep. I didn't see anything for sale that I would die for, or much less go onto debt for. Everything for under 10k was a heap of crap, and I realized that 15k-17k was too much to spend in my current situation.
After a nights sleep, I woke up knowing what I had done was the wrong decision, so I called the agent and told him I had changed my mind. He seemed annoyed, but did inform me that I have 72 hours to finalize anything, so the return deal was made.
So, HRNT is out of my possesion for a measly 20 hours, 2pm Thursday to 10am Friday. The Auction company that picked it up, brought it back, made a rude comment to my wife, rolled HRNT off of the trailer and sped away.
Now the fun starts, I immedietly notice the words "flood" & "return tow" written on the windshield, which was damn near impossible to get off, not a big deal. Then I turn the key, dead battery. Again, no big deal, I put it on the charger/booster, starts right up, but is idling very rough. I let HRNT run for awhile, let the engine get warm and the rough idle goes away. I jump on in and take it for ride, all seems well until I get home and smell coolant coming from the engine bay. I investigate but cannot locate when a leak is coming from, so I let it sit for a bit, while I take a nap before I go to work. By the time I wake up there is a huge puddle of coolant on my driveway, it's dark and I have to go to work. As I have stated in prior post's, I live 2, 3 minutes at the most from where I work & by the time I get there, I'm spewing coolant again. A buddy of mine sees what's happening and comes over to look, puts his hand in the stream of coolant and notices the petcock a quarter of the way open. Honestly, I didn't even know that was there.
Now, how did that get cracked open? Was the Auction company pissed that they had to make the 43 mile tow twice in 2 days? If they were, that's a pretty shitty way to conduct business, sabatoging someone's vehicle out of spite. I'm most pissed about this!
That's not all, my drivers side door is bent, maybe it's the hinge, I'm not sure, but it's one of them. The drivers door limit strap was weak and I always babied that door when opening. I looks as if the door swung open too far and it's bent near the top. The door does shut, but does not sit flush with the body like it should. It also lets a ton of air into the cab, it's obviously fucked.
I called the insurance agency and they are not happy. They said those damages decrease the value of the vehicle and must be fixed. Of course, the Auction copmany is closed for the weekend, those bastards.
This is a dick move by this company and I'm not sure how to completely handle this. Sorry for the long read, I just need some thoughts here.

Man, this has been a saga for sure. Will the insurance help fix the damage? Or represent you to force the salvage company to pay?

The auction house was pissed at you for changing your mind on the Jeep cause they missed out on making a killing off of auctioning your Jeep. You were too smart for them to make easy money so it looks as if they gave you a little "Thank You" for "screwing them out of substantial cabbage gravy train moolah. ....
I used to work around the industry years ago, I know exactly what they were thinking when you snatched the Jeep back out from under them. They thought it was in the bag. Remember Jeeps have one of the highest residual values of most ANY vehicle made or sold today and being popular the parts are worth more than the whole in some cases.

That top hinge looks torn at the top where it meets the body. I bet they didn't shut the door completely and at 75 mph on the hwy it flung open. Was the Jeep on the wrecker facing backwards?
Man, that sucks. I hate that feeling of helplessness when you KNOW you're getting screwed and there isn't anything you can really do about it. Hopefully, the different between the buy-back and the insured value will be enough to get her right again.
I agree with @JP98 on the hinge...looks like that top one is cracked. Hard to tell in the pics if the door is sprung at all, but thankfully doors are pretty easy to find. There are about 3 sets right now on my local Craigslist. I'd start with a hinge and go from there.
