The race and the bearing were shipped separately - the race is here and appears to be correct. The bearing is supposed to show up today as well, but Warrior Woman hasn't even marked it as shipped yet. That's OK, its hot as balls here - 94 on the shaded porch. I'm going to have to start getting up early to get anything done, and sleep during the heat of the day.

Just to make this complete, a rocket went up in the middle of the night. It was super LOUD! Much louder than an Artemis or even a Falcon Heavy. Wife told me it was a Blue Origin rocket. Great - it probably had my missing bearing on board...
The whole house was shaking, we're about 10 miles away from the Cape.
Well, while we're waiting, might as well drive out the pinion races. I have a nice set of race/seal drivers, one of the "pucks" fit the rear/outer race just fine, BUUUUT, the handle was too short to beat on it inside the pumpkin. A length of 1 inch galvanized water pipe, with a coupling on one end (to increase surface area) and a cap on the other (better surface for beating on) and I had a nice setup for driving out said race.
Then it was time for the front/inner. Couldn't get a puck on it, either too small, or too big to fit through the outer race stop lip. Like I do, I did a bunch of quick research, and found a style of ready made puck that wasn't a complete circle, had flats on each side so you could get it where you needed it. Expensive, slow to get, and wasn't able to find the size I needed. I also noticed that some diffs have cutouts in the outer race stop lip so you can get a puck in - I guess Dana missed school that day. Well, shit. As much as I'd like to do this elegantly, I'm going to have to do it the crude Tony Beets way. Length of 3/4" pipe and beat on it mercilessly, and out it came.
The extension handle I made (picture coming) worked great to drive out the one, and should work to install both. It also cost me more to make the handle extension than it did to buy the entire race driver set!

i swear I knocked out my races with just a harbor freight cold punch?
Same. Couple wacks and out it came. Spent more time finding where it rolled to in the shop.

I've used a piece of 1/2 " X 1/2 " X 16" brass stock. No issues .
Done the same but switched back to a cold punch after seeing some discussion about the difficulty of cleaning up brass shavings.

Either my Jeep is "tighter" ( DON'T!!
), or I just wasn't hitting hard enough (pretty likely). Bearing showed up today, thank Goddess.
I make up for hitting it harder with a bigger hammer.
The trick with the punch is getting it on the tiny lip that's exposed. Then working the punch around the outside so you're not side loading the race... little bit at a time and it comes out.
I was talking with a neighbor...about a mile down our main road he claims folks are getting same day Amazon deliveries. He's got a shop next to the abandoned tavern (owner is in prison) and a house closer to Lowell.
Amazon likes to charge folks for Prime and then not give them equal service.

Actually , I don't remember that being a issue with the brass . And I have also used a large drift punch and it worked fine.
I read too much and have too much paranoia. Problems with being a self taught shade tree mechanic.
