Got My New Radiator

Yay for me! I just got my new OEM radiator today. After all the talk, I figured I should get one even though I don't need one yet? My jeep is a 97 with 107, 000 miles, I figure it could potentially go anytime. I bought it as insurance incase they stop making it. I unpacked it and I noticed that its plastic on the outside. My current radiator, which I assumed is OEM is metal on the outside. I'm just curious, if the one I have is OEM or not. Or, did they change something about the mopar radiator a few years later with the tj's. See pics of old and new.

Thanks Jerry! That's interesting. I am curious why the change? In your opinion did my current radiator look original?

It has been 12 years since I last saw my 97 TJ but your photo reminds me of what mine looked like.

There should be a Mopar logo on the lower tank somewhere. If you look I have a feeling you'll find it, about the size of a dime.

If you want my opinion your current radiator looks like the same radiator in my CJ5 except someone behind a desk decided the cap shouldn't be in the middle.

id hold on to that metal tank if it ever goes. radiator repair shops will gladly repair it. there isnt hardly anything that can go wrong with it when comparing it to the more modern plastic rads.

Yea...Honestly, I don't plan on replacing my radiator until it fails. It's working perfectly at this time! If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

correct. always good to have backup parts on hand if your in a bind. I keep all my take offs if still in acceptable condition & generally label them.

Might want to consider a radiator skid plate...Rusty's is the only one I know of...took 30 seconds to install...we have a lot of branches...staubs...on our back roads...

Wish someone would make one in aluminum. Might have to learn to TIG.
