Help with adding step to factory Rubicon rocker guards

Little late to the conversation, and it may not change the path you’ve started down, but if others want an example of sliders welded to the Rubicon rock rails, that’s what I had done. A fabricator friend of mine made them for me to replace my nerf bars.

I like the look a lot better, and the slides are much stronger than the nerf bars, but it did raise the height of the step by about 4 inches. With my 35s and a 4" lift, it’s more of a stretch to get in.

So this afternoon, I got all the joints cleaned up and grinded bevels to get more penetration (that's what she said)

I was planning to tig weld everything but my argon bottle was almost empty. My challenge here is completing this project with a $0 budget, so instead of paying 20 bucks to refill the bottle, I decided to stick weld it out. I haven't welded stick in years, so here is me filling up a blow through...

After a few passes, I got my hand back, well sort of...

So after being humbled by my skills, or lack there of, I decided to clean it all up and do a final, final check before welding the frame mounts onto the slider.

Total investment so far $0, 8-ish hours, multiple curse words and one 4" grinder casualty.

For the record. I designed these going only by these pics that I shamelessly kanged from another forum

This is exactly what I was originally thinking, but I am too far in to switch now
