How civilized are 35s?

A student who frequents the library I work at has a white TJ. I was talking with her about her Jeep and mentioned I wanted to upgrade to 33s and she said don't bother, skip 33s and go straight to 35s like she has.

As this Jeep is mostly a highway vehicle (once I get new tires I'll be looking at some trails), with the required lift and re-gearing to make a 4.10 Rubicon ready for 35s, how are the highway manners of a Jeep with 35s?

Highway manners are fine with most 35's when the TJ is properly set up. That means the right shock absorbers, stronger tie rod or steering system, the right lower-ratio gears in both axles, and better front brakes. I've been driving a TJ with 35's for probably 17 years now and it handles fine even when towing my tent trailer on tight-twisty mountain roads.

If you decide to go with 35's, make sure they have the correct Load Range C rating. Load Range D and E tires are much stiffer riding and are overly stiff for a vehicle with the weight of our Wranglers.

No issue with 35s at all, I also upgraded from 33s.

Of anything, I think my Jeep handles and feels better with 35" Mud Terrain tires than it did with 33" All Terrain tires... honest.

It's a very nice ride with the setup I currently have. But, a lot of that is the fact that I run the right shocks, the right psi in my tires, and a good load rating (NOT E).

I'm super pleased with the road manners of my 35" General Grabber X3's! I'm also loving them way more than my 33's off-road. The 33's got me everywhere I wanted to go, but the 35's just seem smoother and make easier work of the obstacles.

Do you do a lot of driving? You should ask how the upsize in tires and suspension will affect mpg.

For what it's worth, I didn't notice a significant mpg decrease when I went from 33s to 35s. Then again, I couldn't care less about my gas mileage.

I always recommend an 8x15 wheel for 35x12.5R15 tires. I don't like 17" wheels for 35's due to the reduced amount of sidewall you get on the tire which means they can't flex as easily for uneven terrain which reduces their traction on uneven surfaces. 10" wide wheels may look cool to some but if you offroad, you want the 8" wide wheels. Tires that have been aired down for better traction offroad stay seated more reliably on an 8" wide wheel than they would on a 10" wide wheel.

My 35s are fine on the highway. If i was going to daily it though I would have considered a less aggressive tread pattern.

I keep going back and forth about going to 35's , love the look.
My TJ has the neccessary upgrades mentioned to accommodate 35's.....except gears and 1" body lift.

My current 4.10's with 35's paired with the 42RLE would be miserable but the ball is rolling.
