I DON'T hate mechanics shops - they fix things I can't , don't want to , or don't need to even attempt.
They free up my time to make money or do other things .
Most of them are regular folks like all of us , trying to survive .
I own a small business ...if someone does a good job , in a timely fashion, they deserve a profit . Also , if you want a warranty , they need a profit to stay in business to perform that warranty.
Businesses aren't evil and most aren't the least bit crooked. If you have never been self employed , you can't fathom the energy it takes to deal with the public , employees, the government , the bank ,vendors , and service providers ...plus get the work done and make it all work out on Friday .
Signing up for open ended work is where people go wrong with mechanics shops , contractors , doctor's and all sorts of things...it's insane . You are saying ....here's my wallet , have at it.
Get in writing what you want done , what it will cost , any variables , and tell them you won't pay for work you don't authorize . They understand that language .
Also , if you want a cheap hobby , any 4 wheel drive made may not be what you want .
Tj's fall into a lot of categories-
They can be rock crawlers , mud buggies , commuter cars , hobby/toy vehicles , and pure recreational vehicles among other things. economy car they aren't .
At 12 to 22 years out of production , some are nearing antique vehicle status , some are pristine , some are rusted out junk , many have been completely molested , and everything in between .
If you want a nimble,agile , capable and versatile vehicle that is extremely fun , it's a TJ .
It will make you memories and friends . It will take you anywhere . It doesn't have to break you , but nobody rides for free.
I asked a guy at a fair once if a ride was free.. he said son, this ain't welfare , it's a pay fair.
