I've come to the conclusion that I need to pair down on what I have and part of that is pairing down on hobbies.

I had briefly gotten into ATV trail riding 5 years ago when I got a deal of a lifetime on a pair of Can-Am bikes, a DS450 and a Outlander 650. But I've gone out maybe twice in the last 3 years and just found that I was Jeeping instead of ATVing and that is where I was focusing my time and money. I'm keeping the Outlander for yard work and plowing (which I put over 25 hours on each year) but selling the DS450. It hurts selling it because it's such a blast to drive.

I finally got around to listing it. I got over 20 messages within the first hour of people willing to drive 4+ hours to come get it. A few low ball offers, and the first offer at my asking price I agreed to meet the guy tomorrow evening.

It turns out that when I listed it for $500 more than I paid I also listed it for $1300 less than it's worth... I feel like I'd be a jerk telling the guy I'm supposed to meet tomorrow that it's sold for more, but I also feel like the sucker for selling it so cheap. I'm in the process of accepting that I'm still making money on it and at least it's an easy sale and not something I'm stuck with...

I’ve done that. Got in a hurry and made it go down the road quick. I will say, it made my life easier than dealing with 49 messages and all the trades for Volvo’s.

I say, you did fine and if it’s out of your hair and easy...worth it. Especially as I get older and don’t need to suck every dime out of things, sometimes I’m happy to make it go quick and put a smile on someone’s face. Especially if I made money or broke even after use!! Those are the best!!

Oh man, been in this situation more times than I can count.

If I find I am getting overwhelmed with messages, usually I'll end up deleting the listing (before anyone has agreed to buy it), then re-list it the next day with a higher price.

You can always tell when you're asking too little when the responses become overwhelming.
 
If you were able to get it out of your hair quickly and still came out ahead I’d call that a win. Holding out for top dollar equals fielding call after call after text after text - it gets old quick.

That's how it was selling my wife's old car. Thing was newer than the TJs, a tank, in great health, never failed to start even on the coldest days, tires were new and high end and aligned perfectly, awd worked, nothing would kill it but it had issues with all of the accessories like heated mirrors and goofy sensors like brake pad lights, air bag lights (I did verify that they would still fire, it was just the sensor that detected if it was removed), and washer fluid level. Anyone who wanted it as a first car offered barely above scrap $$$ and anyone who had more seemed to get all upset when they found out the washer fluid light wouldn't turn off and required a $500 OEM part to fix. Ended up selling it for way less than it was worth after a month and several test drives just to be done with it. The kid who bought it was super happy with it though and picked up a couple chicks on the test drive. He lost the title before filing it though...

Follow thru, who knows the guy might be a no show, or a jerk and try making a lower offer which opens the game and you can counter with what you want. He'll have a hissy fit but if he does not hand you cash for the deal on the table.... tell him to pound sand.

If he has cash, a handshake and a smile..... well as a few others said, you made a few bucks and it sold fast.

Similar thing happened to one of my old M3s. Had to sell it because we were leaving FL and it was a roll cage away from being a full track car, used it for autocross a lot. Lots of Dinan products, everything done correctly, it was a '99 with about 90k on the clock. I loved that car. I spent about a month of dealing with all the bimmer bros and tons of lowballs, I was holding out though to try and get as much as I could for my play money pot. One Saturday this kid comes with his dad looking at it, he was probably around 20. His dad wanted him to do all the negotiating, I barely even talked to him. The kid was asking all kinds of questions, and on the test drive was talking about how his dad had a old ragged out porsche for track days & autocross. After the drive I negotiated with the kid 'til the point he was going to walk away, seemed like he was real disappointed. I ended up accepting his offer - it was actually a few hundred bucks lower than a previous offer I got. He was so pumped, even though I didn't get what I was looking for on it I felt good about knowing it was going to someone that was going to use it as intended.

I'm glad my wife's car finally got used for its intended purpose too... Picking up chicks.
