I have a 1999 Jeep TJ 4.0 5 speed. It has idled rough for a while now, it stays at around 800 rpms but it is not a consistent number. It bounces slightly and you can hear the difference as it does this as well, bouncing from around 775 to 850 rpms. It also sometimes has a hard time cranking and takes around 3 seconds to start and usually when it does this it putters to a start, but sometimes it will start rapidly, usually after I have drove it for a minute but sometimes it still putters after a few seconds. Another issue I will have is when I am building up rpms to shift into another gear, usually about 2000 rpms, the Jeep will start puttering again like it is going to stall out but will catch itself and continue like normal. The final issue is occasionally when I press in the clutch before coming to a stop the rpms will drop to nearly 200 and will seem like it is going to stall out and then catch itself back up and level out. I have no experience working on cars, but do these problems have to do with a dirty IAC? Would cleaning it solve these, if not what would solve these issues?
