Message from Gerald at Savvy Offroad

Are you really claiming that Savvy's quality has dropped by your describing how Colt's quality has dropped? WTF does Colt have to do with Savvy's inability to keep parts in stock?

No, I don't know that for a fact and won't make any assumptions but it is happening apparently. Don't jump my ass for saying you can't live on reputation forever, you do have to produce!

I was trying to order a transfer case shifter and was having website issues(I was only seeing shipping to US, I am in Can) I just sent an email and Gerald got back to me almost instantly, this is today. Actually a few emails have went back and forth. Hopefully everything gets sorted for our beloved TJ's. I try not to order stuff from amazon if possible.

Specifically what leads you to believe Savvy's quality has dropped like Colt's has who you used as an example of loss of quality.

Savvy vs. GR is a no Brainer. Savvy bumper is 6061. If GR made their bumpers out of something other than beer can grade aluminum, they'd say so on the website. Fact is, they use shitty material to keep the margins up.

It's hard to buy things from Savvy when they don't sell them though. I'll be very happy if I can get the bumper I need.

How so? Seems like it’s just hardware and backing plates.

Make a list of every piece of hardware needed and of every new tool to install that you don't have. Then material cost and the fabrication costs to form what you can't do. Then consider your time to do all the work you end up doing. It adds up quickly, even if your time is free.

If you understood Savvy's incredible quality, strength, and great designs you'd understand why so many do what they can to get Savvy products. It's a very small company that designs for and caters to a select group of enthusiasts who wheel hard so it doesn't have the resources larger companies do.

I understand that but from a client perspective it's just disrespectful. Take soemones money they shouldn't have to be chasing down the part Savvy agreed to make. Your comment about him taking vacations and being "almost retired" makes it way worse. He's taking peoples hard earned money and seems like he's not fulfilling his end of the agreement and is using said money to travle. Basic communication "This will have a 6 month lead time", if everyone agrees cool. Then hit your deadline, its that easy. If he can't don't take peoples money

The reality is very few designers know how to design in aluminum. They compromise by allowing the design to dictate material selection instead of letting the material selection dictate the design. There is a profound difference in performance that most miss.

I understand that. Most of us in here are "enthusiasts" not "professionals" meaning we need something functional but a slight sacrifice isn't the difference of losing a paycheck. I've done business with you a few times, communication is great, I give you money, you send me parts. If theres a delay, no problem. Communicate that and give a timeframe. This thing about taking peoples money then sending products when ever he feels like getting around to it just comes off as shady. To each their own. For me, I would never give money to a company that has no respect for it's clients

What then is the alternative? I have watched firsthand a brand new GenRight aluminum bumper peel open on its very first contact pushing against a rock. This particular Jeep belonged to an enthusiast who valued weight savings, btw. Certainly not a professional.

Understanding what we do about material design, what would the alternative be to avoid sacrificing paycheck money on components that can't withstand their (presumably) intended usage?

I'm not aware that he's taking anybody's money and not fulfilling orders. I understood it just as having parts for sale on a website, but unavailable, and just keep telling people "next month" for a year straight and never taking orders OR making any parts.

This is where I am at,.... Next month and soon since March.

I wanted a Savvy bumper but based on multiple threads on this forumdiscussing how bad their customer service is, I opted to go steel instead of aluminum. I ordered from Motobilt, commmunication was good, got the part I ordered in a timely fashion. The extra few pounds has not changed my life in any way

There's so many threads on this forum that read the same, "Gerald wouldn't return emails", "you order then just wait hoping it will show up eventually", "it's good when you eventually get it", "customer service sucks", ECT..
I don't have any skin in this game. I wanted Savvy until I read all the reviews in this group. Like I said in my first post, I don't understand why a consumer would put up with that. To each their own. This group talked me out of ever giving them my money

Colt used to be a top notch firearms manufacturer, and that's the reason people still swear by them, but they are fucking junk now and aren't worth the hassle trying to get one to run properly. Just because they "used to be a good company" guarantees nothing these days. May have to face the facts and move on! Just sayin! :(

When and what model was the last Colt you purchased? Curious.

I can’t remember for certain but I think my midarm was ordered and charged for a couple months before it delivered. I knew it going into it from talking with Michael.

It showed and I still have done much with it so savvy was faster than me.

I’d pre order a rear bumper if it would help me get one.
