Hi all, so glad to be a part of this forum. Just got my first Wrangler and accidentally used the key for my 2014 Patriot to start her up. Anybody heard of Jeep keys working like this? (The Wrangler key doesn't work in the Patriot though.) Right now I'm taking it as a sign from the universe that this TJ was meant to be mine, but just wondering if anybody else has experienced something like this?

Yeah, it is meant to be yours and any one else's with a pocket knife that can turn the ignition.

Yeah, my door locks are good but my ignition is so worn down you can pull the key out whenever you want, including while driving down the road, I could probably start it with a popsicle stick. Never seen it to be a huge problem, not worth replacing all the locks. And it’s a hell of a party trick to pull the keys out and hand them to your passenger as you drive down the hwy, look on there face is priceless.

Yea definitely the older the vehicle the fewer the combinations. I'll just go back over there to what I was doing. 😶

Apparently neither vehicle has the factory Security system; neither vehicle key should start the other vehicle.
As others have posted; time to install a new ignition key cylinder...

My 02 key mbinatioistarts and runs my 03, wont unlock the doors though. think they only made so many combinations.
