Hey guys! New to Jeeps up here in the PNW! Just got a 2000 4L 3speed TJ and am looking to do a 2" lift from completely stock. I've messed with card my entire life but super new to this suspension type which I'm a bit overwhelmed with due to all the parts and how they cause an immediate and consequential ripple effect. I've been reading the forums and consuming information almost daily on here but looks for a more organized approach.

If there is a post I missed, please forgive me and post it here! I hope this post helps others too!

So here's my goal. I'm trying to understand the best approach and the order of which one should update an old stock Jeep. Specific use for me here would be a street princess with the occasional offroad trail, no crawling. Not looking to break anything. I only was a 2-2.5" lift tops for now. I'm currently running 33", maybe 35" in the future but will revisit that idea in the future. I'd also like to upgrade at a reasonable pace meaning a few hundred here and there and not dropping thousands at a time (which is what it feels like now but I know I got an old car there's some "pay to play").

What do I do first? Here's what I'm thinking and maybe someone on here will orient me to a better path that wont cause problems, IE if I do a lift, I have to do a SYE as a fast follow or it'll start to cause damage?

So if I want to refresh the driving experience with a 2" suspension lift, this is the following order:
  1. 2" Lift shocks
  2. rear shock relocating bracket? (I read some where that this is needed so it doesnt hit the spring?)
  3. matching 2" lift coils
  4. matching 2" bump stops
  5. SYE
  6. rear drive shaft for the 2" lift
  7. front and rear upper and low control arm
  8. extended sway bar end link
  9. track bar
  10. drag bar
  11. tie rod
  12. lower ball joints
  13. pitman arm
  14. super dana 35 (for preventative care with the 33")
Is this the right order of importance? are all these needed for a 2" suspension lift with 33"?

Here’s a picture for fun:

33s on stock suspension? 🤔 When I had a 2" lift, I did coils, shocks, bump stops, rear track bar relocation bracket, and a MML when I had slight vibes. That's it.

If you are only doing a 2" lift then a lot of the modifications only need to be done IF the parts are worn out.
Suggest you inspect the bump stops condition, steering tie rod end condition, steering unit bearings, trac bar ends, and control arm bushings.
The following parts should be replaced: shock absorbers, sway bar links.
Every Jeep is different when installing a 2" lift; some may need a SYE and some may not.
Temporarily you can get away with a transfer case skid plate lowering of 1" until you can afford the SYE (assuming you need it).
You do not need to replace the control arms unless the bushings are showing signs of rotting.
The tires are the metric equivalent of 32" tires on 17" JK rims.
When I lifted the 2001 4.0L that I own this was due to sagging springs at which time I replaced the springs, shocks, bump stops (front were rotten and rears were showing signs) and temporarily installed a 1" transfer case lowering while I saved for a SYE.

I agree with Boogieman
You’re list looks more like what would be needed for a 3-5”-4” lift.

2”, you’re not going to need all that I don’t believe.

  1. 2" Lift shocks
  2. rear shock relocating bracket? (I read some where that this is needed so it doesnt hit the spring?) absolutely NOT NEEDED
  3. matching 2" lift coils YES
  4. matching 2" bump stops YES
  5. SYE DOUBT IT
  6. rear drive shaft for the 2" lift DOUBT IT
  7. front and rear upper and low control arm Not NEEDED, wouldn’t hurt
  8. extended sway bar end link iffy
  9. track bar Not NEEDED would be good
  10. drag bar NOT NEEDED unless joints are bad
  11. tie rod ZJ UPGRADE
  12. lower ball joints only if bad
  13. pitman arm NO, STOCK 100%
  14. super dana 35 (for preventative care with the 33") NOT NEEDED, but 33’s can pop an axle if you get on it, your application what you said, upgraded axle shafts would do.

I’d get the springs? Shocks and bump stops done, be ready for a MML if you had vibes, or based on your application a TC drop with some washers is super easy
