"Pacing myself" build

The Wouxon KG1000G is definitely a nice radio, but I'm not spending $400 on a radio that could easily be swipped from the jeep. I have my eyes on this one,

Or this one,

Both have a very small chassis foot print so I can mount it at the bottom of my dash right over the front of the center console, and keep the mic in the same location I have it now.

Both radios have way more features, and are dual band capable.

Anytone make the clone to the db25g for $99 right now.

Retevis has it too,

While I'm waiting on said Swayloc, I made a new mount for my GMRS antenna. I went with 3/16 plate instead of 1/8" this time. I want to upgrade my GMRS radio, so my Midland MXT-275 may be up for sale soon. If anyone wants my old antenna mount It's up for grabs for the cost to ship. Here's a pic of it.

Those look suspiciously like MT tires...THought you were an AT tire guy?

Which functions are you gaining?
Little more power. Split tones capable. 9 additional programable spots to save repeater frequencies with different tones. Display gives a bit more information. Just outgrew the Midland simplicity. It's a great entry level radio, and works fine. I'm just trying to progress.

Makes sense. Having the ability to hit repeaters is a big one.

Yep, accessing repeaters is a game changer for me. Not as easy as Ham, but with a little research as to where they are, you can extend your range a bunch. We have 4 repeaters in my area that I can access from my front deck with an HT. I put a 5 db gain antenna on the roof of my house. Made a huge difference. You kind of know the terrain here. I live in a fish bowl.

Some radio goodies showed up today.

The little Motorola's will be fun for the grand kids to play with, and trail spares for those less fortunate.
The radio is small enough that it will fit nicely where I had my external speaker mounted. I don't use it anymore, so no biggie.

Radio is going back. It only displays 2 channels, and all kinds of shenanigans required to mod/program it. I'm kicking it up a notch and ordering a better quality radio. I bit more fun coupons, but hopefully I can mount it where I want it to go.

Do have a new radio in mind or are gonna research more?
