I’m wrapping up this stage of my project. It was by far the biggest project I’ve ever tackled,

now all that’s left is adjustments, I’ve installed the savvy cable shifter.

other than verifying torques and the wiring harness. The diesel swap and axle swap is complete.

now I’m feeling depressed because I’m actually finished.

this took such a large chunk out of the account I can’t start acquiring the tummy tuck stuff for at least a year.

I feel your pain. I just added about $4K to my LJ by adding 35's, 5.25" of lift and a TT. It all looks and works great, but there is a sadness that it's all done. Gonna be another 6 months to save up for the next round of gears and axles. Sigh....

That was a little premature celebration. Apparently when I did the axle swap. Along with the head ache of the lift. I forgot to add lube after I installed it.
$1800 later, it is close to the most expensive automotive mistake I’ve made.

You forgot to add gear oil? That's not hard to do even after it's all bolted up. Am I missing something?

I've wondered how far you could drive an axle with no gear oil in it. We recently pulled the rear diff cover off my father-in-law's ZJ to try to find the source of his clunking. Everything looked ok so we put the cover back on with a couple of the bolts. He wanted to move it and thought it would be okay to drive without oil the hundred feet or so that he wanted to move it. I added oil anyway because I didn't want to be associated with a further-blown-out rear end.

Anyone know how much a ring and pinion can handle without oil?

Ohhhh... you drove it with no gear oil in the axles? DAMN... that's a life lesson right there.

Well I got about 30-40 miles I think before everything started seizing.

so much happened at the end of the build, I had the gear oil and everything In the garage. But these are things you miss when your working in a rental bay.

lesson learned.
