Project 1-tons and 40s

Interesting.mated to the chevy auto?

Ax15 and atlas 4 speed have an ar5 bell housing there is a guy who makes flywheels and send harness out to Limewire to get a stand alone and program ecm then run a 6 guage cluster set set and kill all the harness l dont need its goin to be some work but worth it and cheeper lighter and better mpg then a 4.2 stroker

An Atlas swap, NICE! I'm Doing research too, as its something I'd like to tackle some day. I'd run an auto though. Curious how you're going to do the oil pan? Also like to see what you're doing with the gages. Standalone is probably the way to go, though I've had ideas of using the trailblazer dash pod in the TJ hole, but I've not done any measurements.

Cool Project

Use a 5 cylinder pan and pick-up then add a little to sump then pick up a 6 guage set and build a dash

Ok,the bellhousing from the 5cyl colorado/canyon 5 speed trans. Neat swap

Took a trip to Naches this weekend and beat on the ol jeep in the rocks and she still drove back to camp....lol even down the hwy!! I have an instagram page if anyone wants to check it out @pensionplantj l will try to get some pictures here tio but the wife does picts and l drive lol so l never really get pictures!!

WOW I'm shocked that you have bent those axles since many run a Dana 30 without issues.
Lol Im on 33s and I managed to bend my housing&C's too
ball joints are new on my LJ and welp the jeep still has camber lol, It wasn't like that when i bought my Lj 3 years ago Up until I started wheeling it
Its been through some big Texas sized potholes and hitting a big semitruck wheel chock at Sub 90 mph speed....so I cant blame the housing either lol (this was after I had bent my axle)

Kinda here to revive this thread :
That aside, My journey of "Ive been through 3 dana 44 gearsets so its time for a ford 9" swap" has turned into me wanting to get a custom ford 9" housing (that'll let me run unit bearings from a f250) because my current currie housing will put me at the stock TJ width so id like something wider while i'm in the process of doing outboard coilovers triangulated 4 link etc. With that said I have a 78 Ford f250 HP44 with 8 lug outers that comes out to roughly 69" WMS so i wanted to match the rear to save myself some work. But my concern is being too wide, But at the same time I see guys run JK width axles but then run a 17x9 wheel with 3.5" BS so in my mind to combat the 69" WMS I could run a 5/5.5" BS wheel and be at the same width tire to tire and be able to have a decent scrub radius too upfront!
Opinions to my conclusion?

Anything can be broken.... It's a proven military thing...

And bragging that you bent a Dana 30 on 33's??? But I blew up a HP60 on 35's....

IMO 69" is too wide for a TJ/LJ unless you're running wide open trails like in the southwest. Here in the PNW it's too wide. But then I'm finding my 81" outside tire width to be wider than I'd like. But too each their own.

Didn't mean it In a bragging manner,Pardon me.

Well you are the one who wants to get 1,000HP out of his 4.0 N/A too... And keep the AX15..
Well shit you got me there didn't ya 🤣 1000 HP Nitrous assisted? Yeah! Naturally aspirated? Hell no
I do have plans of an 8 speed auto or a 6 speed later down the road

Looks like I'm cutting down my Axle 🙄....

Lemme just drop these 2 screenshots
69" WMS Axle with 5.5" BS wheels comes out to 80.5

And a jk width 65" width axle kn 3.5"BS wheels (which I see alot of)

......The calculations/my laziness is leading me to want to keep the 69" WMS but go with 5.5"BS Wheels
alot of the guys I've wheeled with are A mix of Tjs all the way up to Jls&JTs with wider offset wheels,So where im at I should be fine. But I'd like to go out of state so that's when problems could arise....Whis leads me to wanting to cut my Hp44,Don't want too but it looks like I may have too ?

You can swap to 5 lug knuckles and spindles & hubs for a 65" WMS... Same axle & strength just different outers.

I've never had a F150 & F250 HP44 sitting side by side but this is what everyone tell me.

When I build my Dana 60 front axle I'll be interesting to see what my overall width turns out to be. It's a cut down 99 Dana 60 to a 65" WMS. Plan on using the Currie 5 lug unibearings.

I grew up in the PNW, not that far from Elbe, in fact I was a water skiing fanatic and Alder Lake is Elbe, our go-to. But I didn't wheel until I went with my dad, in now my Jeep in the Tillamook forest.

Width is also a problem here on any trail that is an exploration trail, for which we have many and they are very enjoyable. The JKUs have to do a dozen point turns in many spots, with their width (67" WMS to WMS?) and length. The trail in my avatar photo favors SWB given how tight it is, but more of the hard trails favors the JKU/JLU wheelbase given lots of 5'+ ft granite ledges. And there is no crawling those typically, it is more wheel speed control.

A bit of diatribe to say you should build for your area.
