Hi everyone, I’ve had 35” tires with stock 3.73 gears for like 2 years now and I’m putting in a front locker and a rear 8.8, and I figure that now would be the time to re gear, 3.73s currently suck on 35s i hardly ever even get into 5th gear. What gear ratio should I run on 35” mud tires, 4.0 engine, and 5 speed transmission? Thanks.

X3 on 4.88 for 35's, 4.0, and 5-speed. I ran that combination for years and loved it on both the highway and offroad.

I would argue for 5.13 too if I lived in a high altitude state like Colorado as you do. But for a low altitude state like the OP's Rhode Island I'd stick with 4.88. :)

Most in Colorado follow the Rhode Island advice, if they regear at all. ;)

NV3550/34”/4.88=2640rpm @ 75mph
NV3550/34”/5.13=2966rpm @ 75mph

From 3:73 , you will love the regear . You have our approval , with 30 days to get the work done , 60 if you do your own.

What does altitude have anything to do with that?

3% loss of HP per 1000ft of elevation. Mine is about 16% less powerful in Denver than if it lived in Rhode Island.

Whether or not that plays a role in gear selection is something I'm not entirely sure of since the power band is still the same, just less.

I live at 5,000 feet (NM) and have driven my Jeep to 13,000 feet (CO). I noticed zero difference in power.
