Nevada Re-gearing shops

First things first, I'm in the North East Nevada region, and in terms of more populated cities, I'm fairly close to Salt Lake City UT, Boise ID, and Reno NV. I plan on going to 33's and will need to re-gear. (06 LJ 42RLE) There is only one shop in Elko, not a tiny but a smaller town where I live, that does re-gears but I'm not going to go that route. I called the 4 Wheel Part store in Reno and Boise to get a quote and they said with all the parts and labor it would be between 2400-2600...I know prices have gone up and inflation sucks but..good lord that seemed high...So with that being said, I have two questions; Is that the new norm on regearing prices?
but my main question is...Is there anybody on the forum in this general area/the 3 cities I listed that knows of a good shop with reasonable prices? anything helps!

First off, don't do 4 wheel parts. They have a shoddy reputation for regears and that price is crazy. I'm not in your area at all but I would say try and find out who your local jeep club uses and likes.

They said it would be 2,400...NOT including the parts, I would have to get myself. so it would be upwards of 3k. Id much rather have the shop do all the part ordering so I know and they know they are getting exactly what they need.

I'm in a different market and even considering current inflation/supply chain considerations that is an outrageous price. I paid ~$1200 gears, master kits and installation a few years ago.

Ah, I see. I was hoping with parts and everything it would be around 1500-1700. So parts and about 500 per axle...When my local shop and 4Wheel parts told it would be almost a grand more than that I was shocked.

I regeared 8 months ago here in Fresno CA. I got 3 estimates for labor only.

Estimates were :
1. 4WP= $2000
2. An off-road shop specializing in Jeeps= $2200
3. Differential shop = $1600

I went with the differential shop, and supplied them with $2000 worth of parts

Ring and Pinion kit was $600, so about $2200 for total regear.

I also supplied 2 Yukon Grizzly lockers for $1400.

So, $3600 for the whole deal; regear and lockers.

That was a big hit on the wallet, but wow! night and day difference. Best money I ever put into the Jeep.

I just priced a regear on my '05 LJR yesterday at a local shop here in Albuquerque.

They quoted $3K for P&L for both ends. However, he also said he is fine with having me provide parts and if I do, labor is $640 each. I'll be going this route and expect to get it all done for < $2K.

I found a great deal on a complete RGA installation kit on eBay. Otherwise, the RGA kits for my rig are backordered everywhere. The Yukon kits are available but I've read their quality is somewhat variable.
EDIT: Seller cancelled so don't have a line on the parts just yet.

Prices I saw for complete install kits for both ends range from around $550 to around $1300. Yukon and RGA both sell complete install kits for several F/R axle combinations which seem to save a significant amount over buying all the parts separately.

FWIW, a Dana 44 outer pinion bearing was about 112 dollars on rock auto last time I checked. Yes, ONE bearing, not the whole install kit. Pretty sure that is why most install kits are out of stock.

Also... The shims that go outside the carrier bearings on a Dana 44 are very expensive right now. Tough time to do a regear (just like any other modifications)

I just took a hp Dana 30 and a Dana 44 with lockers , gears , and all the install parts to a local dealership mechanic . He also happens to be a Jeeper too . He charged $400 labor total . I’m happy .

Whatever shop you choose to install your aftermarket gears, please ensure they fill the differentials with nothing but a conventional gear lube, NOT a synthetic. The gears will run a lot cooler during the break-in with a conventional gear lube. Many aftermarket major axle and gear, like Currie and Revolution Gear, require a conventional gear lube. And when it's time to change the gear lube at 500 miles fill it with a conventional again too. Torco, Castrol, Valvoline, etc. are all fine.

For those who always ask/question how do new gears survive in synthetic gear lube from the factory when a vehicle was new... the gears the factory installed were "pre-lapped" before they received them which means they were run/lapped together by Dana-Spicer ahead of time which is why we don't have to break them in from the factory.

After your gears are completely broken in you could switch to synthetic but I sure never did or would. It's proven the gears run cooler when lubed with a conventional gear lube, which is why conventional is recommended for brand-new unbroken-in aftermarket gears.

That sounds a high $2400 @ $125 an hour is 19 hours. I can see 5 hours a axle. One more thing about suppling the parts, if something fails who will they blame your part or their labor?

Hopefully you didn't try to order them. Ebay is full of scams. I foolishly attempted to order a set of revolution gears from Ebay a while back. I placed the order and a few days later recieved tracking information for the gears. When the order was delivered it was nothing more than a thank you card. Since the card was sent with the tracking Ebay listed the order as complete and delivered. I'll never use Ebay again.
