Replacing the coil springs

Don’t forget shocks, I run 3” BDS with no BL but the 2” would be a great option on a budget but as stated above you would need .75 spacers up front. BDS could front and rear cost about $225 and for me they’re great so far.

the PO put on the budget boost, but if it's only 2" there really wouldn't have been a reason to add a from adjustable track bar or rear relocation bracket right? bc I can obviously check and if they are already there then that knocks some stuff off the list, but if there's no reason to even check I won't waste my time
 
What about bump stops? Have you addressed keeping your tires out of your fenders?

You probably have longer shocks with the PO's BB. It would be unlikely he added an adjustable track bar or rear relocation bracket. Easy enough to check though. Shocks will probably work, but, take for example my situation. I put on a 1.75" BB originally. The shocks that came with it were RE stamped Bilstein. I found out they were Bilstein 5100's. The extend/collapse values are for 3.5-4" of suspension lift. Why they would ever sell those shocks with a 1.75" BB I don't know. But I do know that here in a few months I'm getting shorter shocks to match my suspension. Plus, the Bilstein's just ride like crap in my opinion. I feel every event. I'm going with Rancho 5000x's

The shocks from the PO are the skyjacker nitro something something. not the best ride but I don't hate them enough to replace them before fixing the suspension... when I do replace them I'll definitely go the rancho route, everyone on here seems to love them
 
I'm not sure what you're doing about centering your axles after your lift. The front trackbar will shift the axle to the driver's side and the rear trackbar will shift the rear axle to the passenger side. So usually you need an adjustable trackbar in the front (though some would say just wait and see) and either a relocation bracket in the rear or an adjustable trackbar there too. That one is Jeep dependent and something of an unknown, though geometry-wise, the axles will shift due to a suspension lift. Whether that amount is significant or not is an unknown on your Jeep till you lift it.

Also, just wondering, what happens if this isn't corrected? definitely not planning in leaving it but would love to know the mechanics behind it, if u don't mind me asking

Think of how the axle gets moved side-to-side by various suspension lift height by looking at the letter Z. The frame is the top horizontal line, the axle is the bottom horizontal line, and the track bar is the diagonal line which is bolted between them. The track bar is what positions the axle under the Jeep left to right. You can see that if you lift the Jeep up with taller springs, making the distance longer between the top line (frame) and bottom line (axle that the diagonal line (track bar) is going to pull the axle to the side, moving it from its centered position. This is why there are aftermarket adjustable length track bars... so the axle can be re-centered left-to-right after installing a suspension lift. The taller the lift, the more the axle will be off-center with the OE fixed length track bar.

would it be wrong to go with pro comp in the front and BDS in the rear? maybe I'm wrong buti feel like that such a difference between the front and back will cause some significant rake.

In my case with BDS it did cause a good rake so I added 3/4 spacers. I could be wrong but it almost seems like every one that adds lift coils on their Jeeps are adding spacers in the front to adjust for the rake. But I’ve said the before somewhere about BDS. If I were to do my lift again, I would do 3” BDS in front and 2” BDS in the rear.

I just threw some BDS 2" on mine. With a .75 spacer in front it has about a 1/4" rear high rake. Hopefully this will give some more info to go on.

Still wondering why BDS has such a high spring rate? @Rob5589, I'll be curious to hear how your springs are handling. You can compare yours to my old OME HD's.

wow that's odd. obviously that's trustworthy over the listings online, but I wonder why the online listings are so far off?

That spec sheet is directly from ARB's catalog. You have to dig a little to find it, but it has that sheet and shock specs at the end of their catalog.

I'll probably go with Pro Comp then. not sure exactly what the high BDS spring rate translates into but I know ome springs are highly regarded (and I know the shocks matter more, but still ) so I'll just get what's closest to ome

Yeah, it bugs me too. I've been running OME's 942 rear springs for years. They claim those as their HD spring option for a heavy rear or hard top. At 160 in.lbs. rated and BDS's rated 200 in.lbs. you would think the BDS springs would handle like a dump truck?

My TJ with Pro Comp shocks in the rear handled like a dump truck before with 18 yr old stock coils. With the BDS springs now and Pro Comps it is slightly better. Once I figure out my shocks I’ll report back. But dla, rob5589 and nk24 all have BDS. dla says that his ride is plush.
